| HELP! Flaky skin problem!! I recently had to "dip" my baby to get rid of puppy lice and the dip is wrecking havoc on her skin. After the 2nd dip (bless her little heart) she is so itchy. Can I use regular dandruff or T-Gel shampoo on her? I mean is is REALLY flaky!! I just want to make sure it won't hurt her as long as I rinse her well. Thanks in advance for the input!! Tess's Mommy!! |

| You can try baby shampoo (for humans). It should work fine and not hurt her skin. I have heard of anyone using dandruff or T-Gel shampoo though, so I'm not sure about that. Has her lice completely gone away now? |

| There could have been been irritation from the mites and the dips causing the peeling. I would use something soothing like an oatmeal shampoo or Nova Pearls makes a wonderful shampoo for sensitive skin. It smells great too. You can find it at petedge.com or some of the other pet stores carry it as well. |

| Thank You! The dip was for lice and I haven't seen any. Actually I never saw any alive, just the nits. The vet didn't see any live ones either, just dead. I just can't stand to see her scratch and scratch and whine. She does scratch around her ears, but it's purely because of the flaking. I have some tearless puppy shampoo and was thinking of buying a shampoo for dogs specifically to address the flaking. The vet said to wait 5-7 days before I shampoo her, but I don't know if I can wait that long. She's happy in every other way ... playing and chewing and growling, but scratch, scratch, scratch. Thanks for listening and for the advice. Tess's Mommy |

| !!!!!!!!! DON'T DON'T DON'T use human shampoo on your baby! I work in a grooming shop and it can just do more damage. Human shampoos and conditioners aren't made for dog hair/skin. Go to the website PetEdge.com It is a wholesale site that we order through, but they sell retail (wholesale price) as well. I'll find the exact link in a minute and post it for you, but search for the Oxy-Med Oatmeal shampoo and Oxy-Med Conditioning rinse. It is VERY good for dry itchy skin. You let the shampoo soak for 5 minutes, rinse, then let the conditioning rinse soak for 10, rinse. It will do wonders for your baby's skin, especially if you continue to use it every week when you bathe. I use it for my Yorkie b/c he gets dry, itchy skin in the winter and it helps enormously. This is also the product we use in our grooming shop for dogs with ichy, flaky skin. We even have people requesting it now! I'll get the link for you, just in case you have trouble finding it on the site!

| Oxy-Med Conditioning Rinse Natural Oatmeal & TeaTree Shampoo There are the links. The Oxy-Med is only available in the gallon size right now I believe and at $25 seems expensive but that gallon will probably last you a year or so, which saves you big $$$ in the end. The shampoo can also be baught in larger sizes but I included the link for the typical 20 oz. These are FANTASTIC products and I thank God I found them for my Yorkie. If you use them, I can almost gaurantee you'll start to see your baby itching less and her skin looking MUCH better as you treat her over time. Don't expect an overnight miracle, althought it'll make her feel much better the first time you use it for sure. But I noticed after about 3 weeks of using it (I bathe my baby every 4-5 days.) that my Yorkie's skin just looks amazing and his coat is so soft from the conditioning rinse! Good luck!
