| Vet Question I have to change JD's vet and don't really know how. My family has been going to the same vet for years now and our usually doctor passed away so there is a new vet. I really don't like what happened with the place and I'm not too happy with the vet. I am in the process now of getting a new one, but don't know how to do it. I found a couple of places near my house, but how do I know they are good? I've never had to look for a vet. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks |

| I would look for one that specializes in small dogs. I found a vet very close to me and have been happy with him.

| Hard question. I wonder if they will let you meet with the vet personally first to see if you like him or her. Ask some hard questions. Wish I had a good choice here for bets, but small towns are not the best for picking and choosing! Pat |

| Personally, I call the vet office and "chit chat" with the office personnel. If they are nice AND if the vet has good recommendations from reliable sources, I make an appointment to "interview" the vet. I usually do not take my baby with me..... vet places are full of sick animals and I try not to expose my babies unless absolutely necessary. While at the office, I would really look close to see how clean it is and how clean it smells. I would also watch how the vet techs handle the patients. GOOD LUCK! |

| I went thru 4 vets before finding my current one. It's such a personal thing. I refered 2 YT members to her and neither liked her but I love her and have never had any problems. 3 of my other friends go to her as well and they are more than happy. I guess it boils down to the care they are providing to the dog and how comfortable YOU feel. As said in a previous post, I would also look around to see how the office is set up and how kind the staff seem to be. One thing I love about my vet's office is that if I have to take my son, the front office people will entertain him when I go in with doggie and they are more than happy to do it. This, to me, speaks volumes. Good luck! |

| best way to find a vet in your area is to call local breeders, look into the YTCA and other site for breeders in your area and ask them most are very willing to help when it comes to the proper care of these kids... hope this helps

| I agree with Kimberly. Ask anyone you see walking a toy breed who their vet is. Call the vets up and ask questions about your specific concerns. Make an appt to go in and get acquainted BEFORE you NEED a vet and shop around just as you would if you needed a new doc.. |

| Thanks for all the wonderful advise. I think I am going to stop in this weekend and check one of the places out. The vet also has a grooming and doggie day care so they are open to just walk ins. Hopefully everything will work out! Thanks Again!!! |
