| I may be overreacting ! Hi guys ! I have a few concerns and hopefully some of you have gone through this before and can help me out or better yet tell me that I'm beeing silly and that everything will be just fine ! I have a handsome little male named Gucci that I've had since February who is 7 months old now. I've always loved yorkies, so I recently decided to get a female so he wouldn't be as lonely when I'm not home. She came in yesterday and is the cutest little thing ! She's 4 months, and she's about half of his size. I read threads on "how to introduce them for the first time". I took them to a park that Gucci hadn't been to so that it was new to both of them. I was hoping that everything would go fine and that they'd like eachother right away, because when I take him to dog parks he doesn't shy away and he'll play with every single dog there. When I took them out at the same time he kind of sniffed her and walked away, and then he wouldn't go near her again. When we got home I gave him a lot of extra attention and then I took her out again and they started to play a little until she started to bite him, or at least trying to. Whenever I bring him near her he gets annoyed or scared, I'm not sure which. He hasn't been growling at her but it just seems like he really doesn't like her ! And as for her, is the bitting signs of aggresion? Sorry for dragging this out guys, I hadn't realized how much I wrote, but I guess what I want to know is what is appropriate and what inappropriate behaviour in the first few weeks? Have any of you gone through this and have it all work out in the end ? I have it in my head that if they didn't get along at first they won't get along later on.. and although I've only had her for a day there's no way I'd give her up ! Any advice is appreciated !

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Wow, it sounds like you are doing everything right, I've always read that you should introduce them on neutral territory, and it's great that you do that. A dog mouth is very important, and they explore the world with it, this biting you see is normal, and mother and littermates should have taught him inhibition of the biting reflex, so that he won't bite too hard. You will hear loud yelping if he bites too hard. I think it's best for dogs to settle most of their own differences, unless one is clearly bigger. You should act like Gucci has the most seniority, and give him plenty of attention. Are you planning to breed? If not, please get them neutered/spayed as soon as possible; you don't want an accidental pregnancy on your hands.

I have 3 yorkies, got them at seperate times, and it sounds like your little male is jealous. It will take some time and a lot of supervision. Good luck!
