Yorkie or Morkie?

I agree with you lots of unethical breeders and money hungry people marketing these poor babies. The person whom I adopted Nini from, swore to me that even though she sells them out a business facility, her babies came from just a few and ethical breeders who don't mass-produce. She even has pictures in her wall of the moms with their pups in regular homes (kitchens, living rooms, etc). I guess $900 was what our market was bearing at the time (the place was full almost every day and the day I got Nini, a lot of people adopted. 'Morkies' were adopted the fastest), I don't know about now.
I thought puppy-mills were places out in the yard with kennels, one on top of another and dozens of dogs cramped into them. Anyway, that was before I knew better.

$500? Yeah, older and as you said, puppy-mill etc. I just haven't been able to add another member to my family because of the prices. If you do a search here in NE PA, NJ and NY, you'll see what ridiculous numbers for a healthy, well bread baby. Stores in NY and NJ $2.5k and $3-5k micros & tinies---yes! Google it, or research prices right here in YT, you'll see. I won't tell you what 'reputable breeders' want, you may have a little heart-attack.

Nicky is a Biewer, I adopted him because the girls were double the price and I wasn't going to breed them and I adopted him from 'a reputable breeder.' It's sad. Yes, females are more than males even if not breeding The breeders give me a ton of excuses as to why the girl is more that the boy.

I have got to go visit relatives up where you are, $500 is great for me
I tried my local shelter, but it didn't work out, I wish it did and not for the money part but because I'd love to help a poor baby. Cats aren't so sought after here, so there's a lot of them in shelters.

Please, if you know of a (real) reputable breeder with babies at the $500 mark for a healthy, less than 3 yr old, let me know.[/QUOT
MY breeder sold pups that low but she wouldnt fall under the category of reputable breeder either

That is true, but if it's a responsible breeder the female shouldn't have been exposed to more than one male.

Did you find out if your dog is a morkie. I'm in the same boat. If you go to my page and look at my pups one of them looks like a morkie but was told she was purebred yorkie.

I looked at your pups and they are extremely adorable and so very cuddly looking, I just want to reach out and hug them, but after being around yorkies and yorkies puppies for close to 30 years your little babies do not look like typical yorkies. Did you go to the vet yet, what did they say. There are also some DNA kits you can purchase or have run that are under $200.00 since your pups look so much alike you probably only need to have one tested. On one hand I just want to say that you are lucky to have such beautiful pups, but on the other it just angers me so if they are not yorkies and you were mislead by yet another breeder that has taken advantage of someone.

yes i met the mom and dad and they definitely were yorkies. the girl was super sketch though. obviously right when i brought them home i started doing a ton of research and these didn't sound like the typical yorkies. so i text her multiple times asking her several questions about them being pure bred or mixed with anything.. everytime she responded she sounded mad and kept saying LOOK you can just return them i have your money!!!!! and today i mentioned a dna test and she then said "i dont know if they were mixed with anything but go ahead do your damn dna test! i only know that when i got my puppies that they were yorkies!!!" and got soooo mad at me... so you know.. i'm really wondering if they are morkies!!!

Kimmi, you are in a very hard position, in my heart I do not think they are yorkies, if you had your heart set on the "yorkie look" you might spend the next 12 or more years being disappointed. Or you might just love your pups the way they are regardless of what breed mix they are. Your breeder does not sound on the up and up if she finally said I don't know if they are a mixed, a good breeder even just a decent backyard breeder knows these things. Sometimes how much you spend can be a good indicator, when I bought my last purebred yorkie around 9 years ago he came from a show breeder and cost $1,800.00. Lola is a mix and I paid $450.00 for her, but I knew she was a mix from the get go and that is what I wanted.

I feel for you because I would have a hard time dealing with a breeder or a seller of a dog that I did not think was at least honest about their breed. Also I am not sure if you said how old they were or what weight they are, if they are say 8-10 weeks and two or three pounds you could wind up with a much larger dog than you were expecting. There is nothing wrong with having a larger toy dog, but to me if you wind up with one that is 14 lbs when you were expecting 5-6 lbs that could be a problem and upsetting. So many people are mislead it drives me nuts. A gal from our neighborhood bought a papilion mix and when the dog was about 4 months old it was about 6 lbs the gal kept telling me it will not get any bigger, because the Pet Store told her it would be about 6 lbs, well the dog is about 14 lbs and she paid over $1,500 for it!
Did you have a contract or at least a bill of sale, what breed did it say.

I still think your pups are super adorable and LOL in some ways cuter than the traditional yorkies, but it all boils down to what you wanted in your heart and how you will feel as they grow they do not look like the picture of the yorkie you had in your mind.

first off... i just wanted to say thank you for your kind words. i bought those two puppies for $250 each... she said that the reason they're $250 is because she didn't have papers. the mom and dad did indeed look like the general yorkie does. but you are probably correct. they probably are a mix and if they are, that is completely okay with me because i absolutely love them so much. yes it will piss me off because she should NOT have lied, when i gave her so many opportunities to tell me the truth and i even sounded like i didn't care if they were mix, i just reallly want to know what kind of dogs they are. the mom and dad are not registered either so i'm sure they're mixed with something as well and just happen to get the full yorkie look. oh well, what can you do ya know? thanks for your time and i appreciate your advice. no matter what breed they are i will forever love them. but it would be nice to know what they are

They look like they could be a cross with a pom but also maybe they are chocolate yorkies? Are their noses brown?

well I am glad you love them because they are darling. Morkies just like yorkies can be anywhere from 3 lbs to 15 lbs or even larger. However that is not what they should be, the standard for a yorkie or a maltese is right around 4-7 lbs so you would think with a mix it would be around the same, but it could also vary. To me you really can not tell how big a pup will get until around the 13-16 week mark. I don't want a 3 pounder or a 13 pounder so the only way I can be sure is to buy what some people consider an older puppy, Lola was 16 weeks when I brought her home and she was around two pounds, now she is 6.5 lbs. She was my first mix, but that is what I went looking for, after paying over $1,500.00 for each of my last three purebreds I did not want to spend that much again, and to be honest I felt that I would be more likely to get a healthier "cheap" mix than a good looking healthy cheap yorkie. Unfortunately since yorkies are so popular there are so many bad breeders out there that they are ruining the breed. So IMHO the only way to get a good looking standard yorkie that hopefully is healthy is to buy from a breeder with a well known reputation and most likely shows or has shown and of course you will pay $1,500 plus. If you can't do that to me you are better off with a mix or a rescue. I also do not mean the internet sellers that talk about size and want $2,000.00, I mean the breeders you can visit and that are well known in the yorkie community.

Have you been to the vet yet, what does he say about your puppies and what is their weight and age.

He looks mix to me AND you NEED to go that far. This person is selling puppies & passing them off as pure bred dogs. Think about the people who will be spending their hard earned money on a Yorkie who Really want a Yorkie & NOT a mix breed dog. This is absolutely not rite. Your pup is adorable but IF you paid for a Yorkie & were told you were buying a Yorkie then that's what you should have gotten.

that OP started this thread 4 years ago and has not been back on since 2012 the thread was brought back to light because a new member is in the same situation and I am afraid it will never end.
