| 2nd day with 6-week old yorkie puppy Hi! I'm a brand new yorkie mom and my yorkie is only 6 weeks old! I have been reading up that this is too young for yorkies to be away from mommy, and now I am very concerned. She is eating and digesting just fine, but she does not want to drink any water! She is playful when awake but sleeps quite a bit (I understand this is normal). She is peeing regularly but she has now been with us for a little over 24 hours and I had to force her to drink just a little bit of water. Tap or bottled water doesn't matter, temperature doesn't matter, the bowl doesn't matter, and I believe I cannot give her cow's milk. Does anyone know what I can give her instead of water? Please help! |

| Hi you might try some karo in the water your baby might drink the water with ot being a little sweeter, you can also go to a local pet store and ask what milk replacement they have like nutra cal i think at 6 weeks puppies are off moms milk but not really sure as i never had a dog that had puppies maybe someone else can answer that. |

| The best advice is to take that puppy back to where it belongs, with it's mom. I know you're in love. It's a horrible thing to suffer through but you want a well socialized pet. Look at it like a kid that leaves home at 9 yrs old. I know you're worried, but there's too many things to that this puppy needs to be a well rounded pet. This breed should never be sold at this age. |

| Have you tried adding water to the dogs food? You can moisten the kibble. I've had a vet tell me if they are eating, they are getting some water from the food, and just make sure the dog is urinating. Why did you get the dog so young?

| When I travel with my two, I have a small syringe that I use to give them water. You could ask your Vet for one or I think that Petsmart sells them. You can almost force them to drink without "forcing" them with a syringe. That's what I do and it works for me.

| If you put a little water on your finger will she lick it off? In the past, when our puppy hasn't been feeling well and doesn't want to drink, we'll do that and he'll often take it off our finger. You might also want to try getting a water bottle for small animals....like for a bunny. I have one that I put water in to leave in my dogs crate. He sometimes goes out of his way to drink from that, instead of his bowl. I think it must be fun to drink out of and he almost seems to prefer it. |

| If I were you, I'd take your new yorkie in for a vet check tomorrow. This is what you should do when you get a new puppy anyways. I'm sure your vet will have alot of good advice for you and will also be able to check and be sure that your little one isn't getting dehydrated. You should be aware of hypoglycemia and how to treat it if your babies blood sugar levels drop. I battled with this when I brought Missy home before she was old enough to leave her Mommy. I wouldn't leave Missy's side for the first 5 weeks that she was home. You need to keep a really good eye on your pup. Also, I wouldn't have your new puppy around other dogs or on public ground. Puppies can easily catch illnesses/diseases before they have had all of their vaccinations done. It's better to be safe than sorry! By the way, welcome to YT...and please share pictures when you can

| You've come to the right place, and researching to do what's right is the best you can do! Taking it back to the breeder might seem like the best thing to do, but I'd be kinda afraid that the breeder would just resell it. A breeder that would sell at 6wks wouldn't much worry about keeping it to socialize it. It's illegal in most states to sell one that young. Anyway, you have her now so you have to play mommy and momma dog..LOL She must be getting moisture somewhere as she is peeing. The best advice you've gotten is to get her to a vet and have her checked over. The vet will tell you if she is getting dehydrated and what to do if she does. Goats milk is a good alternative and you can find that in cans in the baking aisle at Wal Mart. Keep Nutri Cal on hand as little ones can be suscepible to hypoglycemia. Don't ever let her get a chill as that can also bring it on. Don't leave her alone, enlist family to babysit if you must leave. She is just like a skin infant, she needs 24hr care. Someone said no public or outdoors exposure until she has had all her shots, that is correct. And that is weeks away. Grass, etc... harbors Parvo and other viruses for years. Anyway, welcome to the site, congratulations, you have tons of research to do and you will find a lot of answers to a lot of your questions on here.

| It's illegal to sell a puppy before eight weeks old in Florida. You should report the breeder. Take your puppy to the vet asap and get her checked out. Florida has some of the toughest puppy lemon laws in the country. Her breeder is responsible for her vet bills up to her purchase price if she sold you a sick puppy. Florida Pet Lemon Law |

| If you haven't had her checked by a vet, you should. It's the first thing any of us do when getting a new pup just to make sure all is fine and when to get her vaccines scheduled. How is she doing this morning? Let us know when you are able. Dyan |

| You came to the right place for advice and you appear to have gotten it. My friend got her Yorkie at 8 weeks and put a little honey in the water to sweeten it, but I'd just give similar advice to that the others have already given. Along with lots of love and attention. Keep us posted |
