Honestly i would take him back to the store just so he's not scared of going places and meeting new dogs again. you know what they say, gotta get right back in the saddle. I'd continue to take him like you normally do but for the next few times hold him only and do not let him down. If he isn't scared then you shouldn't be either. don't let him feel your fear because that will just make him nervous. ask the owner to hold her dog and allow thor to smell only the rear half of her so he know its her and she isn't going to bite him again. Now you know she can be bitchy so just monitor them very closely. I would still allow him to see her but i just wouldn't allow them to interact again.

Morgan has been attacked as well but i take her back to the same place again and again so she doesn't associate it with fear. While at the dog park there is usually one dog there who just won't leave morgan alone. i don't know what it is about her that just makes some dogs obsessed. she has also been pinned by a westie and a jack russle and accidentally sat on by an english bulldog puppy. that pup was just being lazy but morgan happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. LOL I also had a dog go off on her when i brought her to work with me one time. it was a cocker who just snapped. they had been fine all day together, playing with the other dogs but at the end of the day when i left to pull my car around closer to the shop he bit her on the head for no reason. she was shaken up at first but quickly got over it. And she still comes to work with me and still likes to greet/play with the other dogs.

I agree with taking him back.

About 5 years ago I was at a pet store and there was a lab there that looked like it had been to hell and back. I politely asked if she had just had spay surgery or something.

The owner said that she had gotten attacked at the dog park and he wanted her to know that not all dogs were bad (wanted to let her see mine).

It totally made sense to me.

Oh no! I saw the title of the thread and just thought "NO, not Thor!" because I know how hard you have worked with Thor on teaching him dogs are okay and all of his training. I'm so glad he is okay for one and doesn't seem too affected by the whole thing. Jackson was bit by a Black Lab once and there was blood from his mouth. I, of course, freaked but he was totally fine and it never changed his happy go lucky self. I would never shelter a dog from other dogs, it only makes things worse (not saying this to the OP, just in general).

I'm sorry that you and Thor had to go through that. Last summer Calleigh and I went to an outdoor garden center. I just put her on the ground [leashed]. The next thing I knew a silky, a dog much larger than my dog, had her by the backside. Apparently it bit her ear first. There was blood everywhere. She wasn't badly hurt either. Thank God. The problem is, she is still very afraid of all dogs. She was never the least bit afraid of any dogs no matter the size before this happened. The only dog she is not afraid of is my friend's Yorkie who she has know for a number of years. I have started to take her to Yorkie Meet-Ups. She seems to be a little less afraid, but it is slow going. I hope your baby won't have a problem with dogs now. Try to get him out where there are other dogs you trust. I bought a spray can of citronella spray in case this ever happens again. I know what you're saying about your heart beating fast and being nervous. It is such a scary thing to have happen to our precious little ones.

How scary, I guess I've always heard yorkies get along with other yorkies, and I've never worried about this, do you plan to do anything differently in the future? I guess it doesn't take two to fight, one is enough. Glad he's ok.

We had a similiar experience a few weeks ago. The other dog was not a Yorkie, but a mixed small breed. After initially seeming friendly, it kind of "pounced" at Rem's face, nipping. Jack was with him, I was not, and he said he just scooped Rem up by his harness. The other dog had a bunch of Rem's beard in his mouth, but did not break any skin. Luckily Rem seemed unphased by the experience.

They do seem to bounce back pretty quickly... he is no more or less afraid of other dogs, but we are a little more tentative when approaching new dogs now!

awwww poor Thor, glad he recovered ok though. Yeah, some little dogs can be really mean even if they are little.

Totally! She's this gorgeous little thing, long hair, top knot, dressed to the nines. But all the beauty hides a devil dog.

I think she must have also had a mouthful of Thor's hair, because he wasn't even scratched, and she was holding on TIGHT. I pulled the leash so hard that he actually came off the ground a bit, and she was still completely latched on. I was afraid to pull any harder because I thought I'd leave a piece of his face in her mouth.

I don't know if there's anything I can do differently, because he had met this dog several times, and she's small... I guess take it more seriously when they indicate they aren't all that friendly. I guess the big lesson I can take from this, is grow your yorkie's hair long!

Thor is at daycare today, so I guess we'll see if he is more fearful today. Fingers crossed.

Just a quick note, the daycare lady said he was totally fine. So no repurcussions. Whew!

I was so completely shocked, I didn't know what to do. The owner rushed over and pulled her dog off. I thought Thor was going to be missing an eye, but he looked totally fine, no blood or anything. The owner was profusely apologetic, and of course I will never take Thor back in there. I can still feel the adrenaline pumping.

Thor seemed totally fine as soon as I picked him up. He wasn't shaking, or crying, or barking, and it seemed like he forgot all about it as soon as we left the store. I just hope this doesn't make him even more afraid of dogs than he already is.

Anyway, it could have been much worse, and thank heaven it was a bitchy little yorkie who is not even a pound bigger than him. I am still shocked though, as it was the most vicious attack I've seen, even if she was little. I'm so relieved he was not seriously hurt.

I am so sorry. Glad Thor didn't get physically hurt. Although I am sure he was emotionally hurt. Thats why females are called Bitches. Yes and they will lock their jaws.
