Thanks much for all your input; the frayed hospital bed liners is a good idea, i never thought of that. I will try that first and if that doesnt work ill try the washable pee pee pads-

for washable pee pee pads, do you just leave it there for the day? right now my doggies wont go on spots with urine so thats why i always have to change it, is it the same for the washable ones?

and how is the smell?

thanks much!

When my dogs were younger I put out 3 a day and picked them up several times a day, depending on how much they use them. Now I only have 2 out for them. I wash them everyday, once in the morning and once at night unless they are used more. There is usually not a lot of odor unless they pee a lot at night. I mop regular and have automatic air fresheners. Asking the hospital is a good idea, wish I thought of it. Also can try a nursing home. I bought XLarge pads at Petsmart, a little expensive but they have lasted forever.

yup i used to have the same prob. i pee pad trained my dog for when i was away at work and those pads are expensive. i finally switched over to the washable ones and yes it saves a LOT of money. i always kept the pads in 3 different areas in my house and slowly switched the spots to the washable pads one at a time. at first she didnt know it was ok to pee on those pads, but eventually she learned. and i think after she used them more her scent gets stuck to them even if theyve been washed, so she knows to use them. i like it a lot better than disposable ones. u can find them on ebay for cheap too.

RDB911's pads have some kind of halo smell blocker thing built in that lasts wash after wash after wash, well you get the picture. there have been times that I have been derelict in keeping up and still there is no smell. I use potty grass in one place and washable pads in their xpen and another place. They also know how to go outside. So, they go wherever it is convenient for me. But RDB's pads wash up beautifully and I've never had an odor problem, no matter how abused. I've also got a couple of hospital pads from when my husband was severely injured and those do not block the smell as well as the the halo thingy ones do. JMHO.

You might consider one of those indoor potty patches. Looks like grass. There's several on the market and I know a few ladies who have had success with them.
The only thing about the potty items with grass is , if the dog has been pee pad trained, they might not like the plastic grass.

That is what happened when I tried one with Addy, she wouldn't have anything to do with it. So, for me that was a big waste of money.

Angel Train them with newspaper

[

Hi,
I have trained all my dogs with newspaper that I put at the same place at the house. You can use the pad as a base, and over it put a bunch of newspaper opened, you can change them frequently as they got wet or the dog poops.
Just leave the bottomed piece of newspaper so the dog will smell that there is the place where it has to pee.
I hope you succeed at this. It takes some work at the begining but after a short period it will be ok.

i used to use pee pads but as you said, they're expensive. so i decided to litterbox train them. depending on if you want to purchase one of the top of the line you don't even have to empty it, only wash it out because it has a hose for dumping waste straight to the toilet.

but i didn't need the bells and whistles so i just got a large gardening potter tray (more than enough room for two to go at the same time) and lined the bottom with clumping kitty litter and fake grass on the top. i find it to be much cheaper. and it doesn't take up any more room than a pee pad would.

i picked the planter over a regular cat litter box because it has a front slope threshold so they can just walk right in instead of having to jump in and out.

That's what we do: newspapers. I stopped a long time ago buying the special pads. Too expensive. We have been quite happy with the newspaper option. Very educational, too...

The initial cost is expensive, but in the long run it saves. I still have several that I ordered over 7 years ago.
I love Personally Paws washable pads!

My little man loves going outside so I don't have that cost, and he's fully trained to go when we go for our daily walks. It's cheaper and the exercise wouldn't hurt your dogs. How about training them on one of those indoor toilets. It will cost a couple of hundred at first but they go on it and it's washable and flushable.

I think its a big misconception that dogs who are pee pad trained don't get exercise.

Love the washable! Need to get more of them, but they are pricey. If you get them large enough the dogs will pee in several different places on them (I put them in the kitchen when I am at work) and then just toss them in the laundry.

Default pee pads

I also use pee pee pads for 3 of my six. They all go potty outside but when I am not at home then I know they can go potty if needed. I contacted a few medical supply company that sold the blue medical (Chux's) I asked them if I can purchase the broken boxes of the pads. Every few weeks I get a few cases (300) per box and all I pay is shipping. it works out to be about $12.00 a case. The boxes are damaged so they can not sell them, they are glad to get rid of them and I am glad to get them.

Don't your furkids rip them up?

Reason I'm asking is when my grama died my aunt gave me a case to use as pee pee pads for the doggies since she had seen the blue ones I was using, but every time I used them all my kids rip them up. I don't know if they smelled different and the spoil furbutts didn't like the smell or what...lol
