tucker is 7 pounds and he out weighs his mother and father. the breeder was wrong to tell you that the pup would only be 4 pounds, they can't know that for sure at such a young age. you will just have to wait and see. in the mean time, enjoy, what a pretty baby you have |
My little guy was supposed to be around 5lbs full grown. His mom was 5 and his dad was 2.75lbs....JD will be 1 year old and he weighs 12lbs. I think you definitely have a yorkie...he is just on the bigger side like JD! She is adorable! |

Cheryl, Fagan was 3.7 lbs at 9weeks and he is 6 months old now. We had him neutered 2 weeks ago and he weighed 5.9 lbs. He still seems very small and I know he's not done growing yet, but he's still a good size. I love him to pieces and would at this point no matter how big (or little) he was. The pictures show an adorable little girl and you got a great price as far as I can tell. I paid $725.00 for Fagan. Good luck and I hope you have many happy times with your baby... ;) |

Well, in Denmark a "real" yorkie must be between 6 and 12 lbs to enter competitions. And from the books I have read on the breed I can read that the only difference from yorkie to silky is size. I have no clue to the standards in the states, but I do know that the standards of YT is that if it's cute it's a yorkie - and honestly I like that standard much more than any other :) |
My adult boy, 12 lbs and adult girl, 7 lbs, had an accidental litter and their pups are now 7 months old and range from 4 to 12 lbs!!! And from what I've read on here a very small male and an average size female can still spurt out an occasional 12 pounder. I don't think it's true that a yorkie over 12 lbs is a silky. I know there are pure bred yorkies on here that exceed 12 lbs. A silky is a totally different breed I think :) |

this site explains that there are three diffrent typed of terrier breeds. it also relates the silky terrier to the Australia Terrier since they both come from australia and the yorkie came from scottish background. i printed a phrase to maybe clarify this you can read futher if you go to the site Because many terrier breeds are closely related and have maintained similarity in size, color, temperament, and other characteristics, it is efficient and helpful to profile them together. Size Maybe Syd just had strange growth spurts...but she was 2.75 lbs when I got her at 8 weeks and she grew to be 6.5 lbs full grown. Your yorkie may not be huge. Maybe just 7 or 8 lbs. But she definitely will not be 4-5 lbs like the breeder told you. Honestly a 6-8 lb yorkie is a good weight. You won't have to worry about her being as fragile. :) |
In defense of amanda350, I had to register Bitsy CKC because I got her as an adult and long story short, I couldn't get her AKC papers from the lady I bought her from. I can tell you that it is very easy to get CKC papers. All I had to do was send in pictures of her and I got her papers. There wasn't any way we could get AKC papers because they required more proof that she was indeed a yorkie! AKC and CKC are different and do have different standards and rules for acquiring papers! |
