Did I buy a yorkie? Help needed in San Diego 3 Attachment(s) Hey guys. I put a deposit down on a yorkie and when I met her I thought that she was alot older because of how big she was. Then the lady kept delaying giving her to me, by about a total of 2.5 weeks. Now I have her and she is huge. She is 3.6 lbs at 9 weeks. Her parents only looked at about 7 lbs. I still have pics of them. I'm concerned because she had some other bigger dogs there that she was mating in the same area. I paid $600 for her and she does have papers. Is there anyone in San Diego that doesn't mind seeing her for a professional opinion on her? Here are pics of her and her parents. |
She looks all yorkie to me. Maybe she is just gonna be on the bigger side. Chachi ended up bigger than his parents. |
She is adorable! Looks like a yorkie to me. These critters come in all sizes. |
Can anyone estimate how big she will be? She's off all the charts I've looked at. |
Your supposed to triple the 8 week weight that gives you some idea of what it will be. |
She looks all yorkie to me, and she's a doll. |
It's just that when I put my deposit down the breeder said she would be 4-5 lbs full grown. |
puppy She will no doubt be about 10 pounds and have down ears..but at $600 it is a fair price for a Yorkie of those qualities. As to the parents, you only have the breeders word that the paretns are who she says they are..you would not want to do a DNA on a $600 pet. I would be more concerned with her health guarantee and temperment. Ask to speak with the vet and get a referrence on the breeder. Puppy will no doubt make a nice pet, if you want a bigger girl. Best wishes, she looks very sweet. |
She looks adorable! And VERY much yorkie! I think she will be a very healthy big yorkie! Ig she gets over 12 lbs she could be what you call a silky terrier - looks ezactly like yorkies but are bigger. The dog to the right looks like it has something mixed in it - maybe scotch terrier or something, but that could as well be the cut. But scotch terriers are bigger than yorkies, so that might explain her size. 600$ for a cutie like that is a very fair price and I hope you'll love her as much as the rest of us love our dogs, pure bred or not :) |
She's adorable. I bet she will be about 10lbs. Stewie is bigger than both of his parents. You have to look @ the earlier ancestory, too :p |
1 Attachment(s) she look yorkie to me.... and i must say that you got a deal at $600..... especially for a girl, usually breeders charge more for females..... my boy is probably around 13 lbs ..... i still think he is small, and i love that he is more "rough and tumble" and not as delicate as the standard ro smaller yorkies.... i would deffinatly say taht she will probably end up at least 10 lbs I dont have any pictures of me holding toby so you can get a look at how big he is, but this is my fiance's arm.... so sitting he is about that tall, hope this helps As time goes on i guarantee you that you wont mind her size one bit, but you really did get a good deal |
Also, there are people on here who have had 3lb puppies @ 8 weeks and had their babies be about 6 or 7 full grown. Some have growth spurts @ diff times. Stewie was 3.5lbs @ 16 weeks and is now between 7lbs & 8lbs. |
Well the problem really is that she intimidates my other yorkie Brandy (one of the puppies eensor and I saved a month ago) and she's only 1.7 lbs. She HATES Cosmo jumping on her and is VERY agressive torwards her. I think anyday she would rather be with a human than another dog. It's been a while and they're still not getting along very well. I really think Cosmo's size is the issue. |
yorkierose: You're right about the down ears. She was very adiment about keeping them taped up at only 9 weeks. |

Brandy is the small one. I think Brandy has issues with other dogs because the BYB took her away from her mother at 4 weeks and was selling them at 5 weeks so I don't think she got the socialization she needed by playing with her brothers and sisters. I was hoping that Cosmo would help her out with that, but since Brandy had 3 weeks without any other dogs, she's turned into a dog that seems to think she's human. She loves nothing more than to just be held. Cosmo just wants to play. I almost feel bad for Brandy. I think she's really intimidated by Cosmo's size. |

I think she looks all yorkie to me...I agree with the others that you never know how big she will be...Magic and Sailor were both 1.6lbs at 8 weeks but now at almost a year Magic is barely 5lbs and Sailor is almost 7lbs....you have no idea what size they will be until they get there.... With the whole Brandy and Cosmo issue...I would say that they are both going to need some time to get used to one another...since Brandy had a rough start it will take her longer to get used to have another dog around, but if givent the time she will learn to live with and maybe even love her friend...my Magic is 2lbs litter than her sister and at first we were very careful but soon realized that she can easliy defend herself, because she is smaller she can squirm around Sailor and kick her off of her when she needs it...I would tell you to watch them carefully and give them plenty of time to come out of the puppy stage and see how they act together!! |
I think she looks like a Yorkie. A very sweet one at that! Big or small, all Yorkies are the best! I think it will just take time for them to become the best of friends. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
I think she is all Yorkie too. If you do want the ears to stand up, I would start keeping the ears taped now. Be sure to shave the hair off of the ears. Just a little hair can weigh down the ears. Yorkies with ears down are cute too! |
She is adorable!!!! What a sweet face. I wouldn't care how big she will get!!! Joy |
shes all yorkie and dam cute with it, my rosie is 9 months old and weighs 9lb and i looooooooooooove her sooooooooooo much |
she looks all Yorkie to me. she may just be a biggun. she's a DOLL. |
Your puppy is cute. :luvu: I have always used the rule between 8 -10 weeks double thier weight. She looks like a yorkie. Some people think yorkies are 3 lb dogs. They come in all different sizes, even up to 14lbs. Remember Yorkies were breed by several breeds to get there distinctive look. Some of the breeds were larger terriers than they are now. So there are what people call kick backs, some of the genes regress to a terrier in which created the Yorkie breed. Sometimes you see white on a yorkie, that is the maltese that is in the genes. Just an example. There are 3 types of dogs, this goes for yorkies too. There are Show dogs, mainly standard rules, restricted diet. There is what they call a pet dog (family dog), another type of diet, the spoiling kind. :D Then there is the breeding dog, a special diet for puppy breeding. Now the show dog, is the tiny one everyone wants, and most of the time people think that is what they are purchasing. Unfortunately that doesn't turn out that way. Sorry to ramble onn, there is all kinds of info on the internet. Good luck |
Ceebie Sugar's Mom..if your puppy is only 1.7 at 12 weeks, he will be small I am sure. They tend to have a growth spurt from 8 to 12 weeks. |
My babys big too!! :animal36 Hi, My baby is 10 weeks old today and she weighs 3 1/2 lbs!! I think that is big her daddy supposeable weighed 4 lbs and mommy 7lbs. If ya go by what everyone says about trippleing weight at 8 weeks then Hayley will be about 9 lbs. I wondered same thing how she get that big when her parents wasnt. The vet told me he did nt think she would be over 7 lbs because some of these puppies have growth spurts and then the weight gain slows down. I dunno we have to just wait and see. Regardless her size I love her anyways and I have been told that sometimes the bigger yorkies doesnt have the health issues and some of the smaller ones. THis is my first Yorkie so I really dont know what to expect but what I do know is I love her and dont care how big she is!!! :D Has anyone here had a puppy to be about this size and still end up rather small as adult like 7 lbs or under? |
