they have to learn about life and death eventually why not learn and love devotion and sacrifice at the same time..Ive watched this movie about a hundred times its a good movie and where the red fern grows is sad to but still good

How many of you read Where the Red Fern Grows? Even though it's sad, I have to say it's my all time favorite children's book. And even though both of these (Old Yeller included) deal with death, they both show that their lives were important even though they were dogs. That's an important lesson in my opinion. Especially today when many people seem to think of pets as "easily replaceable". There will never be another dog like Old Yeller or others like Little Ann and Old Dan. So, it's a celebration of the relationship between man (or woman) and dogs.

There was actually a movie made and I remember watching it at school. I don't remember much about it, but that isn't surprising as I don't remember much past today

I remember Bambi. My mom brought me & my sister to the theater when we were 3 & 4 and afterwards we stopped to get a pizza. A hunter came into the pizzeria, with all his gear on, and told us he killed Bambi's mom! My mother & the clerk both laid into him until he left but we were already so traumatized, it was years until we could watch it again. I still can't believe 24 years later that someone would say that.
