Old Yeller Molly and I watched Old Yeller last night and I do mean she watched it and then we both cried, well so maybe just I cried but that show chokes me up. |
I remember as a child going to the movies when Old Yeller came out....yes I am older than dirt. That movie upset me so much that I never allowed my kids to see it. They are all adults now and have never seen Old Yeller nor have they allowed their children to see it. :D Yes I know I am obsessive but I can still remember that heartbreak of him dying. I'm such a baby. |
Well she sure is a cutie! Not what your post is about I realize, but I wanted to say how cute she is. |

Patty, that makes me very sad that you have never allowed you kids to watch Old Yeller. It is sad at the end but it is such a fantastic movie, one of my all time favorites. Alot of life lessons in it. Watch is again you might change your mind. mojo, thank you, she is little sweetie, I could not believe the way she sat on my lap and watched the movie with the occasional barking at the screen. LOL |
Someday I might but it traumatized me at the time and I still remember that trauma. Like I said, I'm such a baby |
Double feature Old Yellar and Bambi. Let your children watch them. I was one of those sensitive children. When they died I went crazy. I watched wild kingdom , I am one of those people. My children find snake skins, we protect things, it is our way. We love with our hearts, we love who we love. I very sorry if we hurt any of you. We are abrasive. We only like certain people. |
I don’t think my heart could take Old Yeller again. I saw it as a kid and that was enough for me. This brings back memories of when my son was about 3 or 4 (he is now 20). He came running to me bawling his little eyes out. I thought he had hurt himself and kept asking what was wrong. Finally after what seemed like forever he choked out in between sobs that the kitty was dead. I mean this child’s heart was broken. Come to find out it was on TV. He was watching Milo and Otis and when the cat went over the falls he thought it drowned. He didn’t wait around to see what happened next. I had to go watch the rest of the movie with him and assure him that the kitty would be ok. |
That is so sweet that you watching this movie with Molly. One of our kitties, loves to watch the movie... "Ice Age". So cute! |
I've never been brave enough to watch Old Yeller. The only dog movie I've ever seen in theaters was "Marley and Me" and WOAH did I leave so red faced and puffy eyed:( SUCH a sad movie! |

How many of you read Where the Red Fern Grows? Even though it's sad, I have to say it's my all time favorite children's book. And even though both of these (Old Yeller included) deal with death, they both show that their lives were important even though they were dogs. That's an important lesson in my opinion. Especially today when many people seem to think of pets as "easily replaceable". There will never be another dog like Old Yeller or others like Little Ann and Old Dan. So, it's a celebration of the relationship between man (or woman) and dogs. |
