Senior Yorkie Talker | Is it possible to LIKE playing in the water?? Lexi doesn't like showers or the beach water. She seems to slowly not mind walking over water at times. Can yorkies progress to "liking" water or "will not mind" getting wet in water. Lexi doesn't shiver anymore when I give her a bath, but she still doesn't like it. I actually wouldn't mind if she learnt to swim later on... =D (is that too much for high hopes?) Any yorkie advice?

| I think all dogs are different... some are just not going to like it. But it's totally possible to teach them water is fun. Every time water is around, give them a good treat or a fun toy, and let them know it's an exciting thing and nothing to be scared of. You can certainly condition them to atleast tolerate it. But here's proof that yorkies CAN and DO like water http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...y-weekend.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...er-camera.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...joy-beach.html Here's another one posted a few days ago; http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...so-razzle.html

| All of the pictures and videos of Yorkies enjoying the water inspired me to test out Maximo in the bathtub. We usually do his baths in the sink, without standing water. He didn't like the bathtub. I tried putting my feet in with him, but he still whimpered nervously and stood up against my legs asking to get out. Later the same day, he resisted going to our bedroom, because of the adjoining bathroom and bathtub. Once he was in the room, he went and stood on the stair/tub decking to look into the tub. His curiosity leads me to believe that he could get used to it over time. |

| :-) My Hepburn hates being bathed, but I did discover that he doesn't hate water, just running water. He hates the noise of the running water! We have a problem that our shower leaks a lot of water, so every time I shower (and he has to be in the room with me) he gets to stand in the flood waters that cover the bathroom floor. He loves playing in them while I clean up!! But put him in the tub with the water running, and he flips out. I am taking him back to the states in August (I live in Berlin, Germany, but I'm american) and I will finally have a yard to test out a kiddie pool, and he is coming with my family to the beach in North Carolina for a week, where he will have a pool and the ocean to try out! |

| My Pistol loves water ! He doesnt mind a bath in the sink, which is where it's usually done. Of course he follows me to the bathroom and every where else. He was always jumping up at the side of the tub while I was in it, so one day I put him in with me and now he waits with paws on the side of the tub to get in with me. We do this once a week just so he can play. He even has his own rubber duckie that he plays with in the water. Last year we bought him a small plastic kiddie pool and put in the yard. My husband cut down one side of it and dremmeled it smooth. When it's warm he can go outside and get in it himself if he wants to, and believe me he does. He loves the water !! |

| I've posted a video similar to this one before. Unfortunately this year we planted a small cucumber garden in the pool area (which was supposed to be done growing by now so we could get a new pool). Oh, and yes I'm always with him either in or right next to the pool We put steps for him to use, but he ignores them and jumps in anyway.

| I didn't love it at first. We bought the pool having no idea he could jump in it. We had to put up that silly little black fence to prevent him from jumping into it.

| Yes, it's possible. I had a dog I got her on summer, then it rained, it was her first to experience rainfall. She ran out of our house then she played under the rain like a child lol |

| Every dog is different. I have a stream in my backyard and Chachi loves to run in it. My Jewels doesnt like to get wet so she walks over the stones to the other side

That is awesome. I'm hoping I can get Rhett to like the water so we can spend some time on the lake this summer. I already bought him a life jacket and a pair of board shorts | |
