| We're getting a second Yorkie to the house and need advice!!! Hey everyone! We already have a Yorkie- Penny Lane who's about a year and half now and we're getting a second Yorkie girl - she's a puppy. Are we completely crazy? We always wanted to have another Yorkie to keep Penny company and we just fell in love with this new puppy. We get the puppy in a few days and we've been reading articles about how to introduce them in a neutral place and let them play together first before bringing them into the house. I'm soooo nervous though!! Penny is a very good-natured dog, she loves new people and she loves to meet new dogs all the time, we've never had an aggression problem with her but now I feel like we're taking the attention away from her! Do Yorkies love having a little playmate or are we just crazy? So far our families have to told us we're crazy and that Penny will be so jealous and sad (of course our close family do not own dogs at all so they have no idea). Can anyone give us some advice? We feel kind of antsy

| Congratulations for the new addition to your family! I love the name Penny Lane. Definitely have the dogs meet on neutral territory. Then do everything for Penny Lane first: greet her first, pet her first, feed her first, and so on. I've read here that some people separate the two dogs with a baby gate or xpen for anywhere from a day to a week to get accustomed to one another. Whatever you do, supervise closely, especially with a tiny pup. When I brought home my second boy, he was 8 months old, so there wasn't as significant a size difference as there would be with a puppy. Although my boys were buddies right away, we had to work through jealousy issues. Some people get lucky and don't experience any problems at all. Is Penny Lane spayed? Is your new pup a boy or a girl? |

| Congratulations and Good Luck! I got my second one almost two years ago and I'm still breaking up fights. I have a male and a female. The female was the second one, we got her to keep Buster "company". Ha! He would have been just as happy being the only dog. Same for her, she would have been happy being the only dog. But, they are here and they do get along most of the time and I would not change a thing. They take care of each other sometimes, not often. They have both learned from each other, that part is funny. I'm glad I have both of them.

| Thanks for the congrats! Penny was spayed and the new puppy is a girl. We just came home from a big shopping spree and we decided to buy some extra goodies for Penny for when we bring the puppy home. We got some treats and a new toy. We're feeling a little more confident than we were this morning but we're still a little nervous!!

| Congrats on your new addition! I think they love having some companionship and I not too long ago, added a 3rd yorkie to my pack so I understand your apprehension but things have gone wonderfully for me and hope the same happens for you! |

| Congratulations on your new little girl! I think having two is the greatest. Snickers was just a year when we brought Baxter home at 12 weeks. We didn't introduce on neutral territory because it was January and very cold, but it worked out fine. My breeder said to make sure we give Snickers all the attention he was used to, the new puppy wouldn't know the difference. Also, as someone above said, let the older dog be first with everything. Snickers let Baxter know immediately who the top dog was, and Baxter accepted it and they got along fine. Today (4 years later) they are best buds and brothers. You never see one without the other. Also, Snickers had severe separation anxiety when he was the 'only' dog, but it completely disappeared when he had Baxter for company. All in all, I think it's the best thing in the world to have more than one. Now I'm working on getting #3, just have to convince hubby.
