Umm, trust me, my pampered little baby is definitely not missing any excitement . Never knew about being on the furniture, never misses it, and I certainly don't miss the risk.

That's exactly why I would worry about Rocco, because he just gets toooo excited when playing and gets crazy silly !! He has actually springboarded off of someone's lap who was sitting on the floor and fell and hit his head ...I was very thankful that it wasn't from a piece of furniture!!

If I had a tiny one, I'd definitely be concerned. They are so tiny and fragile, I would be vigilant and teach them to use stairs. Luckily, the tiny ones never appealed to me. I have a 7 lber. He's no giant, that's for sure, and when he's excited about playing he's not very coordinated either. I'll be on the floor with his favorite toy, and he'll jump on the couch. Don't know why he does it, but that's how it goes. He's had a few bumps here and there but none involved being on furniture. He bumps his head because he's so ball crazy, he doesn't watch where he's going sometimes.

I agree with it depends on the age and size of the dog. When Teegy was little I would lift him up and tuck him in my housecoat or cardigan and I wouldn't encourage him onto the furniture, he would lay in his bed beside me. He would then sit at my feet if he wanted up for snuggles. I never allowed him onto my bed, he slept in his own beside mine, but one morning I woke up and he was asleep beside me on my pillow. He gets lots of exercise, so his little muscles have likely strengthened and he's now nine months and jumps up and down quite safely. I must add there is nothing sweeter than waking up to find his little face on the pillow next to me, I'm a big suck.

When Maxine was young, she could actually jump up on the couce, and how she made it up I was not sure as her legs are tiny. Like us jumping up a 30 foot wall almost. WShe would also leap off if she heard a noise or the door bell. She looking like Superman....Now, she makes a sneexing noise to get picked up and placed on it. She has her own spot with her own blanket....We have a set of 3 Pillow steps that she uses to get down from the bed, but she usually just likes sleeping in her bed next to ours. Poor Carlo has never been allowed on anything....I still think he gets jealous when she is lifted and carried around, and then she attacks him when he walks by the couch for a pet....she sometimes tries to bite his face. A few times she lunged, bit and held on to his face skin, and he walked away carrying her. Glad he did not shake his big head and send her into a wall. Overall though, they get along great.

Jackson's a big boy at 16lbs so I don't really worry about it. He's jumped on/off my bed, furniture, etc since he was probably 16 weeks old (it took him a bit longer to get up the courage to jump off the bed though!) I imagine if you have a little one, you have to take more precautions.

Although I know it should be a big no-no and something I definitely discouraged at first, when Tatum was a couple years old she decided that the top of the recliner is a good perch. She can see more from there (lots of windows around the room) than when she's on top of the couch. The couch has a hard back though so there's a barrier to keep her from rolling off. I'm not sure how in the world she perches up on top of the recliner sometimes but I think she's part cat or something. We just have to be careful to look up there before plopping down on it. She's never fallen off but it does give me the willies sometimes.

Addyson is 5 lbs. and jumps off the furniture and the bed. I had stairs for both the bed and the couch, but she wouldn't use them. I have a big doggie bed on the floor at the end of my bed, so that helps with the her landing when she jumps off the bed.

She loves to jump off things!!

I have yet to hear of a breed that suffers more broken legs as a puppy than Italian Greyhounds. The rule I've always heard with that breed is they should NEVER jump off anything they can't jump on. I followed that rule with Lizzie, but she was already nine months when I got her and hasn't really gotten larger. I also don't think she was quite the Kamikaze puppy some can be.

Oh my gosh, Jackson does this too. He is always perched up on a couch or recliner ledge. He even managed to sit on the top of a rocking recliner at my grandmas house and stay balanced, crazy boy!

Out of all my dogs only my yorkie who happen to be the tiny one does all the jumping everywhere. As much as I try to train her to not jump down she still does. She my lil' catwomen seriously.

I followed this rule also.... No puppy was ever put on the furniture but as soon as they learned to get up on their own they were allowed. I have a platform bed so it is lower then a typical bed but they also get on chairs and couches just fine.

Really anything could happen at any time and I try to take as many safety precautions as possible with them but I am not gonna stop all their fun

Last night Boomer and Bailey were running up and down the stairs. I went to see what they were doing and about that time Bailey jumped over the last 2 stairs. She liked to have scared me to death. I put the baby gate up on the stairs now she can't go up an down them and that is just fine by me. She is way to little to be trying to be a little dare devil.

There is risk, but they can only be protected from just so much. I would literally have to be by Ellie's side 24/7 for her not to do this. I discourage walking and jumping from chair to couch and sitting on the back of the recliner, but otherwise she is allowed.

I think Zeke is part mountain goat. He weighs 8 pounds now but has always been a climber and a jumper. He is very agile. He likes to climb as high as he can get. If you try to block him, he will figure out a way to get to where he wants to go by either climbing over it or knocking it down.
