				   | Hello, I was just given a 7wk old " Teddy Bear" Yorkie. I have never heard of a Teddy bear yorkie. It was given to me by someone that couldn't keep it. This is my first Yorkie, I have had pugs and bulldogs. I was told by the girl not to cut his hair, that he will turn gray. That they are hard to house break and that the males will mark your furniture. Is any of this true? I can use the help for this cutie pie. Thank you, jacque |

| Donating YT 10K Club Member | Yes all of that can be true. The name teddy bear is used descriptively to describe the shape of the face/head....having a teddy bear appearance. He is black and gold now....expect his head to change first and gradually his adult coat will come in along his back. Consistency and patience will go a long way in potty training. Initially I took mine out on the hour every hour...then at 11 pm and during the middle of the night...out again at 530am and then on the hour. Having him neutered will help in preventing an issue with marking inside. Like your puppy's name. I have a Reggie also.

				   | I also have a teddy bear Yorkie. Her coat was a beautiful black and her legs are blond. When I cut her short at a year old, it did come back grey, but it's ok with me. I was lucky that all three of my Yorkettes house trained easily, but they never had run of the house for the first year, and then it was just a little more area for them at a time for a few more months. I also pad trained them. Now when the rains are too heavy for us to be outside, or when I go anywhere that I can't take them, they use the pads. Also traveling and going into motels isn't a problem with potty breaks. We just put down a couple of pads. I'm not a fan at going outside early mornings or late night at motels. ![]() I was born and raised in Charleston, WV. I have a sister who still lives there.

				   | Hi and Welcome to YT! ![]() Some can look like "teddy bears" when they are young...it's the way the hair grows out. There is not a Yorkie that is named a "Teddy Bear Yorkie" though. Your baby is very young and too young to be away from it's mother, so you will need to watch him closely for a while. I would take him to a vet and make sure he's okay for now. He's still young and has to be kept away from other dogs and parks untill he's had all of his puppy shots and that will take a while. Make sure he's eating and drinking. Young Yorkies are subject to low blood sugar. Get him neutered and you should not have marking problems. I'd do this as soon as the vet says he's ready. What did you name him?

				   | Congratulations on your new little guy and welcome to YT .You've been given some good advice already and anything else you need to know you will find right here. I have never heard of a coat turning grey after it's cut. Sophie has some grey on her head but it's turning light tan now and she has been groomed. Post photos of your little man when you can.

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Hi and welcome to Yorkietalk! Some Yorkies head hair will turn gray, but this happens whether or not you cut it, cutting doesn't change the color or texture of hair. If you neuter soon enough inside marking may never happen. I recommend neutering around 7-8 months, and have any baby teeth pulled at the same time.

				   | Welcome to Yorkie Talk. You will enjoy this group. Enjoy your new little yorkie baby. I agree with keeping a close eye on such a young puppy. They can suddenly become hypoglycemic. I have recently become Mommy to a little yorkie baby also. I made sure each day to suppliment her food, with providing NutriCal. Also another tip that my vet has shared with me. Make sure your little puppy gets ALOT of sleep. |

So far he is doing good on going out to potty, I also have pee pad down just incase but so far he has done everything outside. He sleeps in a crate at night to help with the potty training. Oh one more thing, he has a tail. I thought Yorkies had the tails docked. Thanks again! | |
