| How do you get your dog to wear a topknot? OK.......how do you guys keep your yorkies groomed and looking nice. I have a found rescue I posted about a few months ago. The groomer had to cut a bunch of matts out especially on the top of his head. It's now growing out pretty long, and I'll brush it out real good and he immediately goes and rolls around so his hair looks like a madman! The hair on his head is getting long enough for a top knot and I bought lots of nice pretty bows and barrettes, but forget about it! I think the longest it's stayed in is about 2 minutes! The hair on top of his head is close to two inches long now and goes everywhich way and down in his eyes. How in the world do you guys keep your pooches hair done? Here I thought he would be so pretty after his hair grew out, but he doesn't seem to want to be pretty. Here is a pic of him shortly after I got him when his hair was just starting to grow out. |

| I always begin by placing an elastic band ( not too tight ) . If you pull his hair, the little one will take it off . I never started with bows or barrettes . |

The other thing I did with my girls to get them used to bows - is just do little amounts of hair when just starting....don't make it too tight and try not to have it too loose....but that site is a great picture site to help you start out.... | |

| You have to have patience, patience, and then some more patience My pups already will sit still and not squirm when I put their hair up but I do a pony tail kind of thing because the top knot is just too much work for me I use the little tiny plastic bands on them because their hair is just now getting long enough to put up. They stay in really well and they can see better Only have to wrap it about three times.

| beamer hates his hair done too!! Beamer......aka..."naughty boy"...........will drag his head along the sofa....the carpet...Anything.....than... scratch the litle elastic til its out! He is 18 months old and does this everytime I put his hair up.......its not too tight...and I have done this consistently every day for over a month,,,think the varmint will leave it in..........NO!!! he has been getting groomed since a puppy.....but he has his own mind ! So this morning I will try again and will try to capture on pics his before and after look........the after look is cute as you can see his determined happiness at getting the elastic out or partly out!!

| I use the tiny little rubber bands that are used for cornrows and hair braiding. You can get a box of a million of them for $1 at your local dollar store. Syd can't get these out and after a few days she gave up trying. If you use the kind covered in elastic they come out too easily |

| Please don't try barettes, my two will work them out and then try to eat them. I threw them all out. I use bands and the more you do it, the more comfortable your yorkie is with one and eventually will not care if it is in. I take Chloe and Laceys' out every evening. Until the hair grows, try hairspray, put some on your finger and just rub in on his head. |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | My girls have finally gotten used to wearing their top knots....we always give them a small treat or cookie while we do it so they have something to keep them occupied!! We put it up in a rubberband first and make sure it is not too tight, otherwise they won't keep it in....with Sailor we put two small elastics hairthings in to keep it in and then we put bows on top of that....the girls don't tend to mind too much, although about half way through the day Sailor will try to get hers out...but the more they have the in the better they are about it!! We don't do it everyday to give them a break from it, only when we are going out somewhere or going to taking pictures for some reason!!

| I put Chewy's hair up every day, but instead of bands, I use barrettes and I have found it more effective. I like the ones with teeth grips on them, they seem to hold the hair better and for longer periods of time. |
