You have to have patience, patience, and then some more patience
My pups already will sit still and not squirm when I put their hair up but I do a pony tail kind of thing because the top knot is just too much work for me
I use the little tiny plastic bands on them because their hair is just now getting long enough to put up. They stay in really well and they can see better
Only have to wrap it about three times.
