Do Yorkies Understand the Concept of Time?

I think Stewie knows time. He stands in the window on vigil waiting for me @ the same times everyday.

I know for a fact Dogs & other Animals do know the concept of time...

When i had my Old English Sheepdog,she would always sit by the front door & knew thats when my husband was ready to come through the door from work..

She did this every day


Now my (2) Yorkies do the same

I fully believe that they understand time, at least a little. My grandma use to give my mixed dog, Wiley, a treat every night at 8pm exactly. He would go nuts starting at liek 730 with no one even mentioning it to him. As soon as it got real close to 8 he would sit by the refridgerator(his treats were on top of it) waiting for her to come out. She started this with Maggie and Maggie knew too(i however, do not do this). It's insane.

so my question is .. do you think its the repetition factor?? thats making em aware of time?

Very good discussion. LoveMyBaby, as far as Yorkies waiting for their parents at a set time, that would probably be learned by repetition, but I have no idea how a Yorkie's internal clock (knowing when to start looking for Mommy or Daddy, or when they start sitting by the door or window) works. But knowing the difference between being gone 15 minutes and 5 hours, I'm not sure if that is learned by repetition or just the fact they "understand" that 5 hours is a much longer time...

Yoda's done the same thing to me, when I was away on a business trip, he would sit at the top of the stairs every day at 6pm to wait for me.

Maybe I am just weird...but I truthfully believe that yorkies (at least Syd ) are WAY smarter than we give them credit for.

Sydney definatley knows time. For example...I get out of work at 5 every day and am home by 5:10. Rarely is Syd able to hold it all afternoon...so more often than not she has already had an accident by the time I get home. So this is definately not a potty issue. When I get home at 5:10 she never makes a fuss. She is happy to see me...and I get kisses...but that's about it. However if I make an additional stop on my way home...even if I am only a half hour later than usual...I hear about it. The second I open the door she startes yapping at me...and generally she pees somewhere she isn't supposed to soon after. (This, by the way, is her way of expressing anger at her humans)

my sister was home with my baby and she took him to one of the back rooms and was playing with him.. i was coming home late that evening so Chicle was a bit throw off that i wasnt home at the usual time.. so he was playing and like 4 rooms away from the entrance door to my apt. well she tells me that he all of a sudden stopped froze a bit on the bed and then BOLTED to my living room to the entrance door.. HE FELT , SMELLED, whatever, me coming .. so hilarious!
i read in a book that my lil cousin got called EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DOGS.. that asked the question.. why do dogs get excited when you come home .. even if you left and came back 3 mins later? the answer was b/c we bring in a new scent everytime we see or greet our babies that is y they get all excited EVERYTIME WE COME HOME!!!
