Donating YT 4000 Club Member | ![]() It's called debarking or devocalization surgery. Basically tissue is removed from the vocal cords. It's very controversial and many vets refuse to perform it. Mine is one that won't do it, for that I am grateful. | ![]() I would not elect to have this done on my dog either. Seems extreme and risky to inflict upon a perfectly healthy, normal animal. ![]() |

| ![]() I agree about not getting such an operation. I don't think anyone would even consider such a thing unless it was a critical situation where the barking was making it a "stop barking or give up the dog" scenario. I can get my guys to stop barking, but it can take a while, and if you give into them and do what they want to get them to stop, you are just training them to continue barking even more. I love my Yorkies as much as anyone could, but it would be great if they were of the barkless variety! ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() i've only heard my dog bark once (i've only had her about 24 hours), but when she did, it was a surprisingly loud looooooong bark, like a series of little barks strung together ... i corrected her and she stopped immediately ... she doesn't seem to respond to what's happening outside the front door anymore, but we'll see if she keeps it up.... |
