| YT....pls help. i've had my yorkie two months now. she is eight months old. i dont think she was well taken care of, as she will not walk on a leash, go outdoors, gets very carsick, will not bathe or groom...etc. i am working on all this. the main problem is that she will not house train. she knows to use the pads as she goes there sometimes, but only sometimes. she urinates all over and urinates every 30 mins. i took her to the vet and there is no urinary infection. also, she constantly eats her poop. any help would be appreciated. thank you. |

| Wow, I know this is very frustrating for you, but don't give up on her. You will get a lot of good advice from other members who have had to deal with situations such as this. Rember her previous environment...things will get better with time. Also, welcome to the YT family!!

| Poor baby, sounds like she had a bad start. I would say first off "get her a cage"! I know it sounds cruel, but if she is peeing every 30 mins it will be more stressing for her if you have to rehome her. As for her poop eating, I use MSG, just sprinkle a bit on her food, it will make it not so tasty after it comes out. I used this on two of my biggest poop eaters and they stopped. You can get MSG in the grocery store where you get the salt and seasonings. Another suggesting would be get a playpen, put her, her cage and pee pads in there. Make sure you take her out every half hour and praise her when she goes potty outside. Love her up, give her time, she will be fine with lots of praise and patience.

| Where to you keep her? in a room? a kennel? or she have free run of the house? do you take her outside for potty? or she only use puppy pads? do you free feed or have a schedule? lol lots of questions...but don't know where to start to help, if I can.. When I first got Shay then Bella, I would always put the harness on and let mine walk around with it on to get used to it, then let them drag the leash around to get used to it....

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Usually dogs poop one or two times a day, and are pretty regular, it may be good to learn her schedule and clean up her poop, if you are home to do this, or only feed her when you are at home. Many dogs poop within minutes after eating as eating stimulates the intestines. People recommend unseasoned meat tenderizer to discourage poop eating, it has the same ingredient as pineapple, and will help predigest protein so that the dog will not smell any undigested protein in its poop. Do not use Accent, meat tenderizer, it has too much sodium and MSG which is not good. Switching foods can also help, and choosing one with an easier to digest protein may work. If she is urinating every 30 minutes, you really need to have her checked again for an infection; they sometimes miss it on the first test, or don't do a culture. It's also possible she could have sugar diabetes, if she is also drinking lots of water, because increased thirst and urination is a symptom of this, but I would look at an infection first, especially if she's recently been spayed. For more information on poop eating read this: Stopping Dogs From Eating Poop

| thank you for the great advice. she sleeps in a playpen at night, and when no one is home, and she has the run of the apartment when we are home with her. of course when we are home, we pick up her poop right away, but we have seen her eating some before we had the chance. but it's at night or when we are away that she really gets the chance to eat. as for her urinating, we have gone to the vet and there were no problems. also, it's not medical as i have seen her hold it for many many hours when she was just sleeping...she doesnt get up from sleep every half hour to pee. but when she is awake, she will dribble small puddles everywhere, almost every half hour. |

| Welcome to YT~ You sure do have a lot going on with your little one. I will break each issue down and try to answer all of your concerns. House training First off you need to get a good enzymatic cleaner and use it all over the house to clean up an urine. At this point if she has been peeing all over the house you need to clean up first. Try something like Nature's Miracle After you clean then you can start to train her all over again. You have 2 choices either crate training or tethering her to your person. Either way she is not to be left alone EVER until she is full train. You cannot let her wander from you unattended and either attach her to your side with a leash and harness or into a crate when you are not able to keep her right next to you. Every 20 minutes you need to stop and take her out potty. Give her 5 minutes on a leash or around the yard. Tell her "got potty" and when she does IMMEDIATELY back into the house. If she does not do in 5 minutes back pick her up and take her back into the house. You need to either keep a leash on her and she need to be attached to your side or placed into her crate. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! If she does go potty you can allow her a little freedom but only where you can keep a constant eye on her. This part is very important----if she does potty you do not need to take her out again for about an hour. But if she doesn't potty then she goes back out for 5 minutes about 20 minutes later. Remember this is not the time to look at the birdies, watch the clouds, bark at the neighbors it is potty time. Make sure you praise and treat when she potties outside. You need to praise immediately and not wait until you get back into the house. She will not associate the praise with the potty if it is not immediate praise. Pick up any poop if she goes while on you potty time. I will explain the poop next. Poop Eating~is just GROSS! I would suggest that you use pineapple and you can even add canned pumpkin to her diet along with her food. Feed the pineapple like a treat several times a day. The canned will work just fine. It is not an immediate fix and will take about a week to see a real improvement and you will need to make adjustment to the amount that you feed her. Start with 1 or 2 pieces between meals and if she is still showing an interest in her poop you can add a piece or 2 more from there. Make sure you pick up all poop so that she is not tempted to have a snack. I promise that it will work if you are consistant. Everyone that has said pineapple didn't work didn't feed it often enough. It is safe to feed, will not upset their tummy and they LOVE IT! In addition to the pineapple you can add a spoon full of Packed Canned Pumpkin to her food as well. The pumpkin will also make her poop taste awful like the pineapple. You can add a little warm water to it and make a gravy to coat kibble. Leash training~it just takes practice and lots of it too. If you use the leash inside the house to house train it will also be beneficial to walking on a leash as well. She will learn that she needs to stay with you at all times. Car sick~Is it that she is anxious when you take her into the car or is she throwing up? If it is anxiety then you need to work on car trips being a pleasant experience. Make it a point to take her to the car and just sit with her, give her a few treat and NOT leave the driveway. I've also read that ginger is good for car sickness. I haven't tried it yet but I did buy some organic ginger candy (for lack of a better word) at the check out at Target the other day. I'm going to try it for my Bogey and see if it helps. I hope this covered all of your questions. It is very frustrating to have to deal with all of these different issues. Try not to stress yourself out over all of it as one package and work on each issue individually. If you really take a look at all of my suggestions they kind of all tie together. Good luck and if you need any more help you can PM me too

Well, I think this covers everything I could think of. Just hang in there and handle one problem at a time. Be prepared for set backs, be strong and stick to it, in the end they are so worth it. | |
