| Before her first heat is the quick answer: Provided she isn't way too small or have health issues. If you do it now, before her first heat, you pretty much can guarantee that she will not get breast cancer in the future.

| The rule of thumb is to have your pets spayed/neutered at 6 months of age, however, it can depend on weight and what is going on with your pet. The animal hospital i used to work at, we spayed/neutered stray kittens as early at 4 months......

| for making that appointment I wanted to add that when she goes for her spay make sure to ask your vet to check her teeth. Yorkies are prone to having retained puppy teeth. Once she is under anesthesia the vet will be able to fully check and remove any teeth that she has not lost. This will save you money and your pup a second procedure in the future. Many people will also ask for microchip placement as well.

| When to have her spayed I too am wondering when I should have Miki spayed. I keep seeing in the posts ~ it depends on her weight.... I haven't had Miki weighed in a couple of months, but she was only 1 lb 9 oz the last time she was weighed, and she doesn't look like she gained much, if anything since then. She eats and is healthy in every other way. She also has dbl teeth which concerns me. She turned 8 months today. I'm wondering if I should wait or have it done??? Because she is so small, I'm very worried about the surgery. |

| I prefer to wait until 9-10 months, so that they are given an opportunity for all their baby teeth to have fallen out and if they are retained they can be removed at the same time... it also gives them a few more months to mature.

| The older, the better. Gives the liver time to grow to full size... New findings suggest cons to doing it early...when I find the article I will post it. Suggest better after 1st heat if I remember correctly....
