I've been looking around for a trainer or training program for Duke. I came across some programs where I would board Duke there for atleast 2 weeks to be trained, I would attend weekly and get follow up sessions.

I'm wondering if anyone have done this and what the outcome has been? I'm concerned that if I do this, I won't be there to bond with him and he might forget or go back to his old habits once he returns home to me. Plus leaving him somewhere for 2 weeks would worry me also (this is a whole other concern just like boarding him at a stranger's home).

Any input would be appreciated...

Well, all I can say is that it isn't something I would do, but everyone is different. I couldn't leave mine in the care of someone that way. But that's just me.

I've known two people that did that with their dogs, and both got excellent results. They paid in between $500 and $600 for the training with two weeks of boarding. I don't know if it makes any difference, but one dog was a lab and the other a boxer. I think it depends on the trainer, you need to be sure that you are using a good one. I used the same facility for Jezebel's puppy classes, and I was seriously impressed with their whole operation. OTOH, you might be able to get private training lessons, too, and skip the boarding.

There is another training / boarding facility nearby that promises to housebreak your pup in 2 weeks, and they charge ... get this ... $1200!

I personally wouldn't. I find the bonding part of training to be the best part of it all.

I think I would only do it if I had a really bad problem dog, but if it's just basic obedience
needed, then I don't think it's necessary. That can be done with 10-15 mins per night of
simple training.

I did this with my Cane Corso when he was 6 months old....after his puppy Kindergartens and Basic Obedience that we did together. He went for 3 weeks, and lived there. No, he did not forget us, and he was outstanding when he was done with the 3 weeks of training. Off leash, on lease, you name it, including distraction. Then we went together again for more training as a team. He also went back for PP training (Personal Protection) when he was 3 for 3 more weeks. He loves it at the facility, and they treat him great.

No, my wife would not let the Yorkie leave for a day, let a lone weeks. She did the training one on one, but Maxine still does her thing. So, I guess for a Yorkie, no, especially if they get stressed without you. There are also bigger dogs at training facilities, and always a poosbility they will get hurt, though slim.
