The Odd Couple....Forrest and Louis 4 Attachment(s) I've had numerous foster dogs and normally my gang always accepts them but I wouldn't ever say great connections are made between any of them--that is, until Forrest came. Louis (our rescue poodle) has for some reason decided he is... Forrest's one and only guardian/best buddy. At first I thought Louis fascination was a food thing, bc Louis looooves food and Forrest gets to keep a food dish full at all times (bc he is so malnourished). Now, I'm not sure what it is about Forrest that has Louis so obsessed....but he is! Louis started out just laying next to Forrest's ex-pen, he wouldn't leave, even for the normal things Louis loves - like treats! After a couple of days of this, dh finally moved a bed next to the ex-pen so Louis would at least have a soft place to rest while he stood guard. I'll go to let the gang out and Louis will NOT go out the door until I tell him "I didn't forget Forrest", then Louis will go out but he waits on the patio step while I carry Forrest out....then and only then will Louis go outside with us. Louis used to love to run and play outside and still does but not until after he has stayed on the blanket with Forrest and I for quite awhile. Then he will run off and play but always checks back in to see if Forrest missed him. I've always thought Louis was a more sensitive dog than others I've had, but think now he is very intuitive also - I think he knows Forrest needed a friend. The laws of physical attraction are strange indeed!:) Attachment 314508Attachment 314509Attachment 314511Attachment 314510 |
That is just so heart warming! It's amazing how they form those kind of connections and so quickly. It's so touching! He is his little friend and guardian, it's nice to have such a sweet story to read! :) |
Awww Jen - what an awesome thing you're experiencing - dogs are so smart and I know people think 'they're only dogs' but what you just posted shows how many feeling they have that WE have all the best - loved reading that and that 1st picture was beautiful showing the closeness |
That is so sweet..the pictures are adorable. |
What a sweet story! The pictures speak volumes! |

awww! that is so sweet and I bet Forrest is thrilled he has a friend in Louis. how is Forrest doing Jen? I can tell by the picture he looks a little more "filled out" if you will. any other good news about his health? |
Oh Jen, what a special story. You really should start a journal about this special bond. Everyday when you go outside you could write something in your little book...I am guessing it will make a very beautiful story. They look so precious together. While it would be wonderful to say, you will remember all of it...no you are getting close to my age and ..... what did you say your name is????:p |
Thank you soooo much for sharing. You made my day. |

The best news is that I've seen Forrest walk several times now - and more than just a couple of steps. He walks mostly outside though, so I do believe he is curious about all the new sights and sounds out there and tries to get up to explore. |
aww how sweet is that! Thanks for sharing...the pictures are too cute! I hope they stay together forever!! :) |
Those pictures are precious. You can see the loving concern Louis has for Forrest. Another example of why we love our babies so much!! |
I love the first picture! Louis is looking at Forrest like, "Hey buddy...are you doing okay"? This is a very sweet story. Thank you for sharing. ;) |

Seriously though, a journal is a great idea and I will do just that - bc you're right, I will forget as the days go by. |

Judy - it may make a great story that could raise $$$ for rescue...:D and make sure to get pictures along the way also...what a wonderful story to watch unfold. You are doing such a marvelous job.. |
I must have missed the original thread(s): I gather Forrest has been given to your care because he has problems (neglect being right near the top), but what's his story? It's such an endearing thing that Louis senses the need and has chosen to be Forrest's "guardian". Such a good doggie :D |

Forrest was an owner surrender to our rescue - Yorkie Haven - the previous owners were "going to have a baby" and couldn't keep Forrest any longer. He is 4 years old and had seizures as a 6 month old puppy. We were told that he was paralyzed - but he is obviously not - just a little clumsy bc of neurological problems most likely from either liver shunt or hydrocephalus.....he is still in the process of getting a good diagnosis. Here is a link to the original thread. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-yes-gump.html |

Thanks Jen...:) |
That is just the greatest story. You never quite know how God will answer prayers. Please write more about Forrest and Louis. Forrest may just be the wind beneath Louis' wings and helped him find his life's purpose! :tinyheart |
This is so touching. I still don't know whether to laugh or cry, so I did a little of both. I can already see a big improvement in Forrest - his sweet eyes don't look so sad anymore. And Louis is one special little man for helping Forrest adjust to his new environment. I hope they're both getting lots of extra treats! :) |

DH is always making some crack about those of us here (my son and I), thinking we live on "Easy Street". So, I did register Louis with AKC, thinking that might help in rehoming him.....his registered name - "Easy Street Louis".....sounds like a 1920's gangster or some gambler, hmm?:D |
That is just so touching, I loved seeing the pictures! |

Thank you - I gave up years ago trying to figure out how God will answer my prayers - now, I just accept that he does and am grateful! I will definitely keep writing about their journey.:) |

Jen - I'm so proud of you. What you're doing is wonderful....I never did see how you aquired him either (I'll blame it on what Cindy has) but I can tell by how great they look that you brought them a life they've probably never had. I just had to come look again at the pictures. I agree a rescue story/journal would really be great - I read them all the time on my local online newspaper ...they make you cry knowing what WAS .....and make you cry seeing beautiful outcomes |
