| Welcome. All yorkies have there own personality so it really depends on your little ones personality. Mine is a fast learner and very smart and she docent bite. You can teach them not to bite and nip. I think people say they are hard to train because some can be pretty stubborn mine included if she doesn't want to do it she wont

| I can see where Yorkies could get a bad reputation but if they have bad habits, it is because of their owners and not their fault. Mine have wonderful personalities and are all good dogs. Do not nip and are not yappers but it is all in the training. Some people are a little indulgent and let the small dogs get away with things you'd never find acceptable in a large dog. Good luck with your baby and welcome to YT! |

What you probably already know is that you obtain your pup from a reputable breeder. Once you've found said breeder, they will provide you with all the information you need to know about the yorkie breed. Answer all your questions on the myths and truths about the breed itself. Training instructions, and be there for all your questions 7x24.

| Hello and Welcome to YT! I can tell you that my little one doesn't bite at all and she is very smart. The breed itself is quick to learn. It just takes patience and time. Here are a couple of links on YT that might help you on this journey. Good Luck... YT Addict | I was very lucky when I brought home a puppy to have a friend that is a dog trainer to help me out. I had her phone number set to speed dial. Whenever I read the standard "how to care for your new puppy" lists I cant help but think they are all the same and of the things I wish I knew. The list posted above is very informative. A+ I would also add.... 1. Take at least a week off from work. I would even suggest 2 if you can to help you and your puppy both adjust to your home and potty/crate trainnging schedule. 2. Walk into your new vet's office before you bring your dog home and make an appointment for them to be seen the day after they come home. You are going to spend a good amount of time visting your vet's office. especially since its a puppy and will need their shots quite frequetly. If your puppy seems sick try to collect a poo sample before you go to your vet for them to test. obviously it needs to be fresh. Your vet is your new best friend. Make sure you trust them. When in doubt, call your vet. better safe than sorry. Be ready to pay those bills. 3. If you decide to crate/potty train as I did make sure to block off the back of the crate. They only need enough room to turn around and laydown. If you are using the crate to help you potty train and they can get away with messing in the back of the crate, they will. I have never seen my dog more upset than the day she messed in her crate and couldnt get out of the way of it. 4. Decide what type of potty training you want. I did outside only which was fantastic in the summer... but then winter hit. She wont potty outside in anything under 20 degrees. Just shake and cry. I wish I started out on pads. Now I'm haivng trouble re-training her to go in the house on a pad. Thats all I can think of for now. Again, this is in addition to the previous links.

| Yorkies are great companion pets, they all have their own unique personalities and need patient and time. As Mardelin said it is very importaant to begin with a reputable breeder who will place a healthy well bred puppy with you and be available for advice. I would recommend you pick up a yorkie book to understand the basics of their diet, grooming and training tips. I have three wonderful girls, all friendly and non nippers, one loves people and one can careless about people. They are all well socialized so they are not shy and good with other pets. One of them is high energy and requires a bit more excercise and longer walks. Actually my third is still a puppy and she gets car sick but I'm working through it. If you have any more questions just post. Have you found a breeder yet? Good luck and welcome!
