This thread is a worry, I had my boy George fixed when he was 6 months old, he's now 17 months old, he still gets an erection when he's humping Teddy and tries it on with Maddie (my daughters dog) but she's huge so he'll not succeed there (I Hope). He definitely still has the desire even though he doesn't have the balls, I really didn't realise it was such a serious business to let him carry on ( I hope you don't come down on me like some of you have to the original question)

He could definitely have changed because he tried to "do the deed" with a girl, or it could be from something else. Has he gone through any other stressful thing lately? It could also be from his hormones changing if he was just recently neutered. Whatever it is...good luck

Yes, I was being quite serious. Why do you think that breeders advise all the time to never allow unsupervised ties? That it poses a threat to both the male and female? The risk is not the pregnancy--it's the injuries that could result from the tie itself.

Even neutered dogs can still tie with a female. The tie is the result of the swelling in the males bulbus glands, which are not removed during a neuter. If the female panics, or jerks and tries to get away, either of them could be injured. Many females will turn on the male in an attempt to separate from them, even "drag" the male around. (Is it really that hard to see why that would impose a huge risk for injury?) The bulbus glands could ruptured. It could easily result in broken blood vessels in the male's penis, which can lead to a condition called Priapism where the reduction of swelling after the dog is 'excited' is compromised--which can lead to some SERIOUS issues. The female could suffer from internal injuries and lesions of the uterus, possibly resulting in infection.

I believe there was a thread on here a while back where a member bred her dog and was unaware that he got a few strands of hair wrapped around during the tie...I *believe* that the dog actually ended up having to have his penis removed. (I'll have to see if I can find the thread.)

So no, I was most certainly NOT kidding when I posted that allowing this just for the fun of it was irresponsible. ASIDE from the behavioral issues that she is now experiences with her male as a probable result. So to crudely joke around about something and treat lightly a decision that could have easily harmed her male...sorry, but there is just no humor in that.

(I find it a bit disturbing that someone could make such crude comments yet I'm the one that's out of line...for expressing concern for the dog...go figure!)

George is on a play date this afternoon with his girl friends, I've just rung my daughter and told her of the dangers. So we'll have to get into some serious behavorial changes, I never realised it could be so dangerous

Well what you probably don't know is that the post we are all replying to was removed, and so was the quotes. They now need to just close this thread since it now makes no sense with that post removed.

Dogs and people, totally different.
When a male is "fixed", his testicles are completely removed, they don't have the hormones anymore which make the penis erect, do that to a man and he will not have an erection.. PERIOD..

When they spay a female, ALL of her female organs are removed. ovaries, uterus, etc. So there is also not hormones pumping through her body and no desire to mate. Dogs mate for offspring ONLY, not for the desire to have sex like humans.

I am in awe of the fact you don't know the basics of biology..

no need to start insulting. actually, i'm very educated - in fact, i'm a licensed teacher - and i'm looking into law school (but the closest is 1.5 hours away, and i have 2 kids).

as you can see from plenty of people's posts - lots of dogs continue to do the deed even after being spayed/neutered. obviously (i thought) i was joking when comparing humans to dogs EXACTLY- although the concept is the same - which is the point i was attempting to make. in other words, regardless of what you tie, cut, or castrate - desires remain. you can castrate a pedophile, but that doesn't mean he won't continue to have desires.

i said "why would dogs be different as far as desire to do it?" DESIRE being a big word.

and, i think it's anatomy - not biology - if we are getting that serious.

Be more firm with him.. show him who is the boss/mom but speaking like you are not impressed He will get over it..
