| My yorkie wet fart Asking for opinion. Our yorkie eats "Royal Canin" for small/toy dog, we also give her carrots and celery mixed for the meal. She farts, and it's a little wet, not poop, just watery stinky fart. It does not smell like her poop. Does anyone else have the same issue? and any idea how to avoid it? We tried stopping the veggie mix in her meal, did not help. It's quite embarrassing when she wet fart our guests (if you call it a fart, since it does not make any sound, just distinct awful smell) |

| Ok, those that know me, know I just HAD to click on this just from the title! Anyway, what you are describing has me thinking it is the anal glands expressing. They usually are expressed/emptied when they poop (if the poop if firm enough). I guess it is a marking/scent thing. Sometime dogs cannot empty the glands themselves and they end up getting backed up and it gets itchy, and causes them to to the "booty scoot" across you rug or furniture. Also not nice when guests are around. If this is the case, I suppose the glands are expressing themselves. They do have a smell, kind of fishy, not very pleasant. Also, I personally don't think Royal Canin is that good of a food, and they just raised their prices. There are much better options at lower prices.

| I agree with that is sounds like an anal glad thing. Before we had Roxy's glands expressed she would have slimy poop and lots of it. I thought her groomer was doing it and when we switched groomers she said it has not been getting done....errggg....now that its happened shes good. She has some horrible smelling farts but not wet and oozey anymore. eww

| That's right, it's fishy kinda smell... more like rotten fish Our yorkie has this allergy to something on the regular food, which caused dry skins thus very itchy for her & she scratched a lot. Our vet recommended the Hills Prescription Diet Z/D, she never had the dry skin anymore, but it's quite expensive. Our vet told us to use this Z/D for like a year and then start trying other brand. So we did, we tried Eukonuba, Natural Choice, Science Diet, and finally we found the Royal Canin works ok. Why do you say Royal Canin is not good? Back to anal gland "leak", what can/will the vet do? will she need operation or somesort? she does not do it often, just a couple of times a week perhaps, and more likely to do this during car ride or when we watch movies (weird) perhaps she can't stand the noise. |

Some dogs do express their anal glands when they are nervous... so this could be why it happens during the car rides and movies.

Well some dogs never have to have it done and others need it done more regularly... my dogs have been having a problem with theirs and it was recommended that I start giving them green beans to try and help with this... we will see in a few weeks if it is working or not.

| Usually should be done about once a week or once a month, or every few months, really depends on the dog. Have your vet check her out and see what they say, they will know best. As for the foods. Yes prescription diets are very expensive, but from what I understand should not be fed permanently. Royal Canin is the best out of the ones you have tried (that you listed) but still not that great. You can check out this link here to get free samples: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html This one to grade your food: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ing-chart.html But I really like this site bc it's easy to read and understand, and NO MATH! yay! Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings Royal canin only got 3 out of 5 stars, and IMO our babies should get nothing less of 5 stars! Here's their grading: Royal Canin Mini Adult Dog Food Review and Rating Check out the 4 or 5 starts links and you can find most of those brands at petco now. Most petco's have redone their stores to have the super premium stuff now. I feed Wellness Core that is 5 stars, and my picky super skinny Uni likes it and has gained a few ounces! Oh ETA: that for the price of RC you can get a much higher quality food for less $$. I sign up for email coupons from Wellness and get $3 off each month, so one small bag costs me only about $12 and lasts about one month for two dogs. Sorry for all the rambling.
