It must vary by vet, then, because the vet I use will not vaccinate puppies until 8 weeks of age. I wouldn't consider it a terrible thing to take a dog home at 8 weeks old, either. I'd wait until at least 10 weeks, personally, for social development, but I wouldn't hold it against someone if they let a puppy go home at 8 weeks.

I'm not sure you really know what a reputable breeders is because a reputable breeder of small dogs will not let a pup go home before 12 weeks and if they do that's skipping a step which means they are skipping other very important steps.

I encourage anyone who is supporting bad/poor breeding to hang out in a shelter and a rescue. Make sure it's a kill shelter you are hanging out at as well.

My dog is a Morkie. A Yorkie/Maltese mix. I know the personality of both parents, and they are extremely sweet. My pup's littermates were also extremely sweet. Louie looked TOTALLY DIFFERENT at 12 weeks old. He was black and dark brown, with a straight tail. Now he is turning a light shade of gold on his body, with a cream face and belly, and he has a curly tail. I DO NOT CARE! It doesn't matter to me, so why the H*** does it matter to you?

You obviously don't know how to let something go when someone backs off. Please don't make me get nasty, because believe me, I will get extremely nasty if I feel the need to. Let it die.

It matters to me because I care about the millions of dogs being put to sleep every year. I care about all the poor dogs suffering from bad breeding. That is why is matters to me. You responded to me so remember that.......

Agreed. This is a problem that is bigger than just me or you. It's all of the millions of dogs euthanized every year. It is directly related to people breeding dogs when there are plenty of good ones in the shelters.

But the argument stands at what people want. I want this, I want that, I want a puppy, I want what I want. I will justify it by any means. Or, you can't tell me what I can or cannot buy. I can spend my money however I wish.

It's all true. But look at what that is saying. Pretty selfish if you ask me.

I try to help with the pet overpopulation problem. I volunteer with rescue. I try to educate people. I probably won't ever purchase another dog in my life, but rescue them? Oh yes.

You want a purebred Yorkie, therefore you will go to a breeder for one. Most people on this forum do. And yet you're telling me that that is different than going to a breeder looking for a specific mixed breed of dog, because you like that mixed breed? Wow.

No not at all my opinion is that reputable breeders don't breed mixes. I support reputable breeders and shelters/rescues.

Here we go again with the reputable breeder bullcrap.

Say I'm looking for a Morkie puppy, and I can't find one at a shelter. I check out some local breeders. None of the breeders look very good. They all sound shady. I expand my search and decide to look for a breeder further out. I find one that is experienced, and just so happens to be a veterinarian. I ask questions and like what I hear. I drive 6 hours to go get the dog from a breeder that I feel I can trust. It turns out that she is experienced and that she is trustworthy, and clearly treats her dogs like gold. The parents are healthy and wonderful, and so are the pups.

But I'm such a terrible, stupid human being, aren't I? After all, the pup I ended up purchasing is a mixed breed. Oh, the horror! If only it was a purebred, then maybe it could be justified!
