| Itchy & knots Hi, My yorkie is 9 months old, she had her first home palor session this weekend. I did not get the name of the sampoo the lady used. But after that she was very itchy, I bathed her the day after with the normal shampoo I use, but still is very itchy. What should I do? She got shaved so there is not much brushing to do except for the face area. The lady explained to me that it was the baby hair that makes the most knots. Will there still be baby hair growing out? |

A number of things can cause itching: bathing too often, type of shampoo, diet, allergies, weather, fleas. If the itching started right after her grooming, it was probably caused by the shampoo and/or being shaved. Try to wait a few days before another bath (unless the itching is severe) and use a soothing oatmeal shampoo plus a conditioner. Right now I use Biogroom Oatmeal shampoo and Biogroom Silk Creme conditioner, both available at Petsmart. Edit: I see you are in South Africa and probably don't have PetSmart stores. Any good oatmeal shampoo and conditioner made for dogs will do. To combat knots -- stay on top of brushing and combing your pup's hair as it grows. Last edited by Maximo; 04-13-2010 at 05:50 AM. | |
