| Does your Yorkie get a "summer" haircut? It's only April but already it's 80 degrees and Abby is hassling (may be misspelled-sorry) when she runs and plays hard. Plus I found 3 little ticks on her this week-end. She loves to be outdoors, if I have to keep her in all the time I don't know if she will potty on paper. I'm thinking of having her hair cut short for the summer because she has thick hair and it's so hot on her and so hard to find fleas and ticks through all that hair. But I'm afraid I won't like the way she looks and it will take so long to grow out again. What do you do? |

| Both of mine get summer cuts. I live in southeast TX and it gets really hot from about mid-April through Nov. They seem more comfortable with a summer cut and it grows back. Buster's coat grows much slower than Maggie's but then he doesn't like to be brushed so that works out ok. In fact it's about time for their summer cut!

| I think my wife gets her a puppy cut in the warm months...and it is a little longer in the winter. I get the same thing! Will soon get the Summer Cut, high and tight! Why not of they are not show dogs. Only long hair is on the head for the bow, and around the face so she does not get mistaken for a little Rat. |

| Yup Remy just did on Saturday There are some very good picture options on this site.... our first puppy cut (last year) was not very successful. This one is much better. His body is short, but legs left long. I must give full credit to a pic on this site |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'd worry about the ticks first - are you treating her ? I'd freak if I found a tick on one of mine and know they can be a huge problem in some areas lots of people do summer cuts - I plan on cutting down Chanel again this year - she has way too much hair and she'll be happier....just watch how cold it is indoors and if you keep it really cold you may want to keep something lightweight on her at night |

| Mine has a "puppy" cut all year long and she loves it... I kept her hair longer last year and you could tell she was not as free (if that makes sence) LOL Do not get it to short as they can get a sun burn very easy bring a picture to show the groomer what you would love to have on your furbaby

| Yup! He feels sooo much better after he gets cut. Here's Jackson's summer cut he got on Saturday. The last photo posted is about as long as I ever let his hair get...

| Yep, in fact both of mine get theirs tomorrow. Harley actually keeps his year around because he has a thicker coat than Samson, his hair is super thin so I let it grow out in the winter. I let Harley's beard grow out more in the winter but cut it shorter in the summer.

| Last summer I cut Mitzy in a puppy cut and let her grow out this winter. Her grew 8 inches since last July. We are moving soon and I did not want the hassle of keeping up with her full coat so I decided last night to shave her body but keep her legs and face long. It was hard to cut all that hair off but she is so happy!! and that makes me happy!! Plus with a tee shirt or dress she still looks like she has a full coat!!

| No, I keep my dog in full coat year 'round. Sometimes it's a hassle keeping it combed out, but I like it long. He stays in the house most of the time anyway and is only outside to potty, and for walks on a leash.

| I hate to do it..but Thomas will have a summer cut. Its just too hot and humid here, and when we go to the beach he gets all sandy...plus I worry about ticks. |

| My dog has the puppy cut year round, but we allow it to grow out a bit in the winter. |

| Yep Remy gets her summer cut around the end of May or so ,because it gets hot here and she loves to play in water. Then I let it grow out through the summer and by christmas it is mid length again ! From there on I give her trims myself to keep her hair at a manageable length. Eileen |

| I keep all my girls in the summer cut...much easier and cleaner with less hassle. With 5, i don't have much time and they just wear clothes to keep them warm in the winter and warm under the a/c in the summer. They keep their ponies and short hair on the face and legs but pretty much shaved on the body. They dry in a flash too! I just cut down Candy this past weekend. Hers was the most drastic as i hadn't had a chance to cut them down for awhile. |
