| Dirty Eyes?? I had a question I thought someone may have a solution too. My puppy, Laila, always gets those 'eye boogers' as I call them. I try to keep up with cleaning them each day. However, I had to take a week off because Laila was being very snappy, and now I don't know how to go about cleaning the hair by her eyes w/out hurting her. Has this happened to anyone? I hate to keep 'picking' at her, but I hate the matting it becomes if not kept up. Thanks everyone in advance for your help!!!!!

| Wash around her eyes every day with warm water on a cotton ball. Use contact lens cleaner to help soften and remove boogers. A soft toothbrush or a mustache combs helps too. |

| I clean Gucci's eyes with a cloth wet with warm water and a flea comb. That works for her. |

| I have a couple of suggestions. As a stop gap measure, put either liquid tears or similar product on the areas and rub gently with your finger. Let it soak for a few minutes, add more if needed. My choice of things to remove them is an eyebrow comb but a moustache comb will probably work. I do not pull dry eye schmutz off..you can pull the skin off and they get a sore with a scab.. The other thing-ask your vet to do a test to see if the ducts that drain the extra moisture from the eyes to the nose, are clogged. They use a dye in the eyes, turn off the lights, use a blue light to see if there is any of the dye coming out of the dog's nostrils. If the naso-lacrimal ducts are clogged or just not open, they will try flushing them when they do the dental cleanings while the baby is under anesthesia. I have that done with my dogs regularly-the test, I mean. The flushing is only after the test.. |
