| Need help with a name I adopted a tiny little 8 week old maltese last week that is blind. She doesn't have an eyeball on the left and the right eyeball is so underdeveloped and tiny that she cannot see out of it. She is just a precious little ball of fur. I've always had and still have yorkies so this is my first maltese. I just lost my 18 yr old Heidi about 8 weeks ago now and she was basically blind due to cateracts. I lost my 16 1/2 yr old Kady last March and she didn't have any eyes so I have experience with blind dogs but not with a puppy that was born blind. Does anyone have any helpful info for me especially with housebreaking. She is using the litter box and going outside but I am picking her up and putting her in the appropriate place- I think I'm the one that is trained and not her but 8 weeks old is a little to early anyway. Also need help with a name. The owner-breeder named her Angel but I might rename her. |

| I kind of like Angel, assuming she is white?? But I think Hope would be appropriate also, as I think you have brought some hope to her life. Bless you for taking in a special needs. She will bring you many rewards.

| You're wonderful! I'm terrible with names, but I like Angel for a blind Maltese. For some reason, it seemed to fit. Anyway, I found a couple of links that might help you. I've had one that went blind, but I've never trained a blind puppy. I hope some of these help you. How to Train a Blind Puppy | eHow.com Blind Dog | The Daily Puppy Tips for Blind Puppies I didn't know if you'd be interested, but there are some books at this link for blind dogs: Lantern Publications - Petcare Books

| I think the name Jade will fit her (Jade...The rarest and most valuable is colored white) She is precious and you are great for taking her in. |

| This may sound like a very odd name but how about "Halo"?? You know she has to have a halo over her anyway! I am sure you will do just fine with whatever name you choose and she'll be a very good, happy little girl!

| How about Merry or Joy? I admire your dedication in training this little one. Housebreaking is hard enough - I'm in the middle of it now.
