| Hello!!! New to Yorkietalk Hiya everyone! My name is Kris! I don't have a yorkie yet, but I've been looking to buy one. I haven't really found someone sure fire to get one from since people are so expensive!!! I have been looking for as much information as possible about yorkies and I want to be a really good mom when I get one, which I hope will be very soon!!! I went to the pet store at a mall and my friend and I felt so so bad for the puppies in the window that we decided to go play with one. We ended up playing with a yorkie, and it was love at first sight. However, I refuse to support puppy mills! The dog was $1500 even though it didn't even come with papers. I am about to move into a new place, which I haven't found yet but I kind of have to since my lease will be up soon I want to be within walking distance from my college so that I can come home during breaks and be with the new puppy. That and since the school year is SO CLOSE TO THE END I wanted to wait as long as possible to get the puppy, but not too far into the summer, since I want it to have a chance to grow and be happy and with its mommy all the time for a few weeks before I start a summer job. Oh, so maybe some stuff about myself, then? I am an art student, my website is artwhispers.net | the blog and portfolio of Krystel Williams (please feel free to look at my stuff and tell me what you think!!). Next year will be my last year of undergrad, and then I plan to go to grad school for art history, theory, and criticism and possibly a masters in education. I am double-majoring in art history and Illustration. My plan is to move to cali and go to school there, since they have the best art history programs in the US. I have a fiance, who goes to college for computer networking and other technology stuff. He also plans on getting into political science. Both of us really love animals, but all we have is a hamster right now. She is adorable, though! She likes to run really hard in her wheel until she flies out and flings herself against the cage. We also like to play vaccuum hamster with her, where we put her food on the floor in a trail and she runs to each one and stuffs it in her cheeks. She likes the right cheek over the left cheek, so sometimes she will have one huge cheek instead of two slightly stuffed cheeks. Both my fiance and I long for a baby to complete our family, though. My fiance has had dogs and cats all his life, and I have had one cat but my mother kept her when I moved out since she is by herself and now I can't really get her back (even though I still have to pay for her frontline)!! Anyway, enough from me! Hi everyone!!! |

| Hi Kris and welcome to YT! You are going to love it here, but let me give you a word of advise, DONT TAKE EVERYTHING SAID HERE PERSONALLY! People on here have varied opinions and some are more blunt (read: HARSH) about it than others, but they say it with love and appreciation! Everyone has to start somewhere! There are lots of great topics on here as well that you should read up on prior to buying a yorkie, especially read up on the health problems that many of them face! That said. Welcome and I hope you have a good of time here as I do! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | WELCOME to YT !!! Your drawings are amazing, wow. Such talent. Your hamster sounds like a total character and adorable - what is her name? It can be tough to find the right pet, but I commend you for sticking to your guns, and not buying from the store - despite how tempting it must've been. There are some good links here (on YT) about looking for a puppy and how to find a good breeder. Also, not sure if you are interested in Rescue - but there is a rescue section too! And, we have members here involved in rescue. Anyway, welcome again !

| Hi everyone! Thanks for the commendations and advice <3 I try not to take everything that's said SO seriously, since you can't "hear" the person's voice when "speaking" you can only assume how they "sound". Not always a good thing. Wylie's mom: the hamster's name is Panda, cause she's a panda hamster! She's super cute! I love her a whole lot, but it's hard sometimes cause I can't cuddle her. Thank you for complimenting my artwork! If anyone could recommend a breeder in the NE Ohio area it would help a whole lot, I have definitely been looking, and looking for rescues, and even mixed breeds that would stay kind of small 'cause I would love to purse train the dog and carry it with me sometimes. My school is so small that people bring in their dogs sometimes and no one pays it any mind, haha! Except with lavishing attention all over the doggie of course! I really want a puppy, and not a dog that's years old, which it seems it's hard to find. Even 6 months is a little old, I would love to get one at 10 or 12 weeks instead. But I haven't really been able to find many prospects. |

| You DEF want to wait til the pup is 12 weeks old before bringing it home from its family. They need the extra time to learn the social skills from its mommy! |

| Oh?! I've seen a lot of people offer them to go home at 8 weeks, and I thought that was a little young, but I didn't know to wait until 12 weeks! Thanks for telling me! o.o |

| yup... you dont ever want to take a puppy home before 12 if you can help it. They can develop behavioral issues like aggression or biting. Not always, but you have a higher risk. Plus they learn better if you wait a little bit longer. And it can help them stay healthy if they wait for 2 sets of shots before coming to their new house! Any GOOD breeder will wait til 12 weeks. |
