Senior Yorkie Talker | 11 weeks old, need some advice! hey YT loves!! I didn't update you all but Bella got very sick as I was warned here on Yorkie talk. (She was sick when I bought her, a mistake on my part and too young) She became malnourished, dehdrated, and her glucose levels were down. She had a fever and became lethargic and limp. She lost weight so she was just under a pound and started to poo black. Without hesitation i brought her in and they told me they would do what they could! I was devastated because in just a weeks time I fell hard for this sweet and loving pup. After many hours or care she bounced back! She has continued to gain weight, have a lot of energy, run around, and ate like a Queen (fattening prescription food which she loveddd) Now we have her on a bland diet of rice and boiled chicken and boy has she gained a lot of weight! Her tummy seems like someone blew a balloon up in it. Now I am so nervous to bring her anywhere let her go outside or be around other people. I just don't want her to get sick again. So I was wondering what others thought about this. SO, she is due for shots in April she will be 14 weeks at that time she is going on 12 weeks. After a lot of reading on YT, I have learned that she may have had her first set of shots too young. Has anyone else had this experience? I just want her to be normal and healthy and happy. I don't want to feel like i have to wash my hands 30 times a day or tell people not to touch her. Should I hold off on the shots and keep her in the house? Also I read about socialization of the pups and how important the 8-12 week period is and we had her during this time. Should I be having more people around her and playing with her to ensure that she will be open to other people other than my boyfriend and I? I just want her to be healthy and i feel like I am walking on egg shells because she still doesn't have consistent poos, sometimes they are runny so until that ends I will feel much better. The vet gives her another week but as long as she is eating and drinking they said its ok. I check her poos for worms and I havent found any and she has had the worming from the breeder. I wonder if there is still a chance she has worms too. She did have bacteria which that antibitics should take care of I just wanna weigh all the options!! Thanks for any feedback!! I really appreciate it. Love, Bella and her mom xo |

| So sorry to hear that your little Bella got so sick and am really glad to hear that she is doing so much better. I'm sorry I can't be of much help as I have never been through anything like that (thank goodness). I know there are a lot of people on this site that should be able to help you. Good luck and I hope little Bella continues to improve. Please keep us posted.

| I am so sorry your lil Bella is sick!... I don't take my two out at all...I know it may seem mean but they never have been, so they dont know any different than inside, I did this because Shay is soo small and we had a rough start too, till I got him on the right food, and started using distilled water. We also live in the mt.s and if I took them out they would be like bait for all the animals, and buzzards..so safer to stay in, they are puppy pad trained..They do ride with us, when we go up north, or like when we went to Florida.. Good luck, you will get great advice on here. just thought I would share what I do...

| I would not let her be around other dogs or people until she is fully vaccinated, definitely would not take her in public areas or places. She is susceptible at anytime to pick up any diseases that are out there. Has your vet preformed a fecal on her?

| When I brought Sugar home, she was all fine until the 2nd week, I brought her to groomer. She has kennel cough the night itself, I brought her to vet, vet suggested not to bring her out to meet other dogs until she's fully vaccinated I'm not sure if it's OK to bring her out this young as I waited until the final shot only I brought Sugar out for walk..

| Do not take her out until she is FULLY VACCINATED! You may want to wait 2 weeks after that incase it is the last shot that will provide immunity. I live in Texas and we have tons of stray dogs all over our property as well as possums which carry rabies and leptospirosis which can be transmitted to dogs. Hawks and owls are also out there! The #1 culprit will be dogs that have been in the area. I was suprised at how many people do not vaccinate their dogs... and a dog can have a case of parvo and still be roaming around. Chloe is 20 weeks and fully vaccinated for 8 days and has still not been outside (she ran outside once and I freaked)... I know it's hard, but this has been my rule of thumb with all my dogs and it has always worked... I AM SO GLAD THAT YOUR BABY HAS MADE A FULL RECOVERY! I HAVE A FRIEND THAT GOT HER YORKIE AT 6 WEEKS... HE WAS HOSPITALIZED NUMEROUS TIMES WITH DEHYDRATION, HYPOGLYCEMIA and MORE... |
