Pet store selling a puppy a 5.5 weeks! Isn't that illegal?? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Okay, so I posted before about my bf's cousin who bought her yorkie from a petstore

Well today she had a few questions she wanted to ask me about potty training, feeding etc, so I spoke to her on the phone. It seems her husband gave the little guy a piece of a hot dog wiener and the little guy is having slimy poops, So I did my best to give her some advice, and I had a few questions for her! First thing I wanted to know was the age of the puppy when she picked him up, she said 5.5 weeks!! She said she asked the pet store person if she could wait until he at least turned 6 weeks, but the guy said the yorkie was ready to go. This cannot be true, can it? I told her he must be older then that! he is about 2lbs she said. He also told he that yorkies love cold weather!! What a nut case, she mentioned she had him outside to potty and he was out there with her for almost an hour and he was shivering, I told her that was because he was freezing!! I'm tempted to call the store and tell the person who sold the dog to get their facts straight, I'm just stunned.

I'm not sure of the name, it's in NL, Canada, probably a small locally owned store because it isn't a big town. I am going to find out though!

Wow, what an unethical pet shop. I agree, post the name of the store. If this baby was only 5.5 weeks when she bought her, at what age was she taken from her mother!?!

Post the name of this store, get it out there, call the owner. This is unacceptable in my opinion and if we don't do something to stop it, it'll keep happening!

I think we should totally bash this person online somehow. I would love to know the name of the store also. Please try to make her join YT, so she gets the info she needs to raise a healthy, happy dog.

Hmmm, I see they have 4 week old morkies that will be available in 2 weeks, so they are selling them very young, absolutely horrible!

He is ADORABLE but that is crazy that they sold him so young!!! And as far as yorkies liking the cold I know that mine doesn't. If I take her out to pee and it is cold or windy she just stands there and doesn't move. It's like she turns into a statue cuz she is so cold.

I went to that website and the puppies look like something is wrong with them because they are SO FAT! Like they are pumping something into them. I wonder why they are all really really rolly polly???? And they had some that were 4 weeks old (it said they would be available in 2 weeks) but still, 6 weeks?!?! That's crazy!!

Well being originally from NL(up until 3 yrs ago) ....I will say that I am almost sure that there is NO law regarding age....as long as they can eat and drink on their own they are good to go!! That Pets R Us place is conducted like a circus! It's prolly the store in St. John's area!! I have been there a few times and believe me....they don't care about the animal as long as they get a profit!! It's pittiful......
