| Does anyone have a yorkie who is a therapy dog? Does anyone have a Yorkie therapy dog? Just curious. I would love for Rucker to be one, but I don't know anything about the training.

Yorkie Talker | My little Zoey is in training for therapy. You really have to start early with socialization skills. There are several kinds of therapy dogs. Some just visit nursing homes. Actually go into the hospital rooms to cheer up patients bedridden or terminally ill. Some therapy dogs are trained to participate in actual rehab therapy to motivate patients to move without thinking. My daughter has a Yorkie that is trained to fetch a person on command when she needs assistance(she is quadriplegic with no voice). Opposite end of the show dog spectrum!!!!! Didn't mean to get wound up. I am also a nurse working in rehab. If you want more info, google Delta Society. Or just ask me!!!!

| Mike/Alaskayorkie's Eddie is a certified therapy dog. He just passed his annual recertification test I believe, and got bumped up a level so he can now help with OT/PT patients. |

| Starr has completed some of the training. She has to be 2 years old to enter the actual therapy dog training. |

| Does anyone know if there is an age limit? We are planning on getting Destiny certified once we retire her from breeding in the next year or so and visit nursing homes with her. She is so great with people and has such a way of lifting your spirits up. Plus she just loves all the attention, she will love it.

| Mine is not official-but, our hospital lets her in! When I was in for 19 days she came to visit daily and was awesome--she helps me with therapy at home and alerts when I'm not doing well. She also fetches people to help me if I am in trouble! Love her! |

Yorkie Talker | I don't think there is an age limit for the animals but there is for people. Anyone interested can look at the web site Delta Society.org. It really is a rewarding thing to do. Put those wonderful, lovable and intelligent Yorkies to work. They will enjoy it as much as the patients do!

That is their rules. We would like for her to start sooner. My wife currently visits senior citizens in nursing homes and takes Starr with her. The people enjoy her visits and are always asking when she will return. | |
