You are so right on, Mary! So in all actuality, a breeding male should be higher, but we aren't in a perfect world.

As far as Vet care expense, we had maxines teeth cleaned and she needed a few extractions. The basic price of just the cleaning was $250. Then add in the blood panel, anaesthetic which cost more as it was safer than what they regularly use, the extra charge for the extractions, Antibiotic and pain meds, and the grand total came to around $700. Worth every penny though. Still not as bad as the $7,000 for the fence that was put up for her. You should see her clothing bill!

Females smarter and prettier.....I'm not sure of that, my yorky boys, to me are the prettier than my girls.....Smarter too....I'd much rather show a boy.....they are more willing to please and dependable. My girls, though I love them.....have that whole harmonal thing going on. One day they'll show like dreams, the next day they'll look at me like I've lost my brains. Give me that look that says, I'm not doing this today.

Yes, I LOVE my boys, I love my girls as well, but as with humans, females think they rule! My boys are much more devoted to me! I guess that is why I have such a soft spot for boys! I think for the average person, a female is looked upon like a baby doll, one that can be prissy-ed up, so most tend to go with females, me, I would take a boy anyday!

Yep, that's the way I do it! As for being perfect, I am far from it, my DH thinks I am, so that is all that matters to me!

I think just having my Biewer "Micah" neutered in dec 09 is proof enough that i do testing he was 14 mos old at the time & never had a sick day, he was bought for a stud but i chose not to use a dog with (MVD) as i would not want to raise sick puppies or put the buyers though the heartbreak & expense that i have had

around here people sell females for more because you can get more money back on them when you breed them. you sell each pup for a price add that up and the litter total. but then again here puppy mills are EVERYWHERE is sicking!!!!!!!

I'd have to say the price is based on the breeder personally. If the breeder has put a lot in to the parents both medically and time wise, and then even more into the pups again medically and personaly i would assume the price woudl be higher. I owuld pay more if i knew the parents were healthy based on testing results and of course the breeder was a breeder not a puppymiller plus if the breeder spent the right time and energy socializing and training the pup. my bff and i both have talked about breeding, if we were ever to get into that area one of the things we have talked about is house training the pups cause goodness i know how much easier it has been to have karma already trained vs mazy who i am STILL house training!
either way the other poeple posting here have all the right answers! there are lots of factors but the most important is to set aside the higher end of the money..then figure out what YOU want in the dog (personality, color, gender) then look at the breeder with a very very fine toothed comb and microscope! spend LOTS of time with them. in an ideal world you would spend a few months doing this at the least. and this site is the BEST place to get all your info and find a good breeder too!

You'll find that in each Region, most reputable breeders know each other on a personal basis, as they do business with each other. Therefore, their pricing is pretty much even and standard.

Great you're doing your research and glad we could provide insight.

Remember you buy your breeder first, then your dog. If you don't feel comfortable that your breeder will be there for you the rest of that puppy's life, walk away. All puppies are cute and some breeders are counting on that to make that sale.

Me too! My oldest furkid is 16 yr. old female Rat Terrier and she has been a handful her whole life. LOL. Independent, stubborn, too-smart-for-her-own- good, and moody. When I decided to get Yorkie, I knew I wanted a boy. I can only handle one moody girl at a time. hehe.
