How much do yorkies cost? Hi everyone -- I'm still new to YT so I hope this is appropriate to ask. I'm still new to doing research on yorkie puppies and their cost and have seen such a wide range $200 all the way up to $3000! I'd assume puppies from show dogs are costlier but $3000 still sounds like a lot to me. Does anyone have an average ballpark price for what to expect from a reliable breeder? Just trying to separate the ridiculous from the norm... Thank you everyone! I appreciate your help. |
Prices Prices vary across America.....pets to show dogs it is all different. Show dogs here in Louisiana usually run at most $1500.00 that I know of....yorkies as pets are as cheep as $500. Good Luck! |
I did a lot of research before I bought my yorkie. The average price for a yorkie as a pet was as the above person said, about $500. As for show dogs the prices will usually be over a grand due to the bloodline, etc. The price of a yorkie depends on the gender, coloring and age. Obviously if you are looking to buy an older dog the price will be less than if you are buying a puppy. Just do your research, decide what you're looking for then search. It can take months to find the perfect dog, it just depends on what you're looking for. Good luck! |
Yorkie prices will vary,, as you already know. But there is also vet care that can be very expensive. Make sure your pup is healthy and the parents have had testing to genetic health issues, that may save some extreme vet expenses. |
As you already know, yorkie prices can vary quite a bit. Research the breeder. IMO, the average price from a reputable breeder would be $1000.00-$2000.00. Some can be lower, some can be higher. A lower price tag know, may cost you down the road. A higher price such as $3000.00 for pet quality, can also be be deceptive. I would not choose a yorkie on price alone, other information must be factored in. Good luck in your research.:) |
As stated already, you do see various prices for yorkies. The cost of a yorkie can dependent on the Region you live in. You live in California, be careful, puppy mills are out here...... But, the most important thing is to research your breeder. As many will use advertising ploys to obtain more money |
Location is everything when it comes to the price of a puppy, OP you are in the high dollar area and can expect to pay more than in some other areas. I consider myself a very reputable breeder but i do not live where everyone has high paying jobs, since there are no big cities close so puppies do not go for as much but that does not mean they are not as healthy or of quality. I just sold nice Biewer pups for $1500. and paid more than twice that amt. for the parents. so location is very much apart of pricing :) |

I have two prices; one for pet quality and one for show quality (the latter you keep longer for obvious reasons, requires more time and effort from the breeder). If sold for pet; both are required to be altered. What I've been given as a reason to pricing girls higher is demand for girls is higher (so, it's a money thing, capitalize on it). If sold for show; That I don't understand either, since a females breeding time is from approximately 2 years to 5 years; 4 litters at the most. A boy's breeding time is much longer. You prove him at maybe 8 months of age (just to see if he's viable) and you can breed him to 11 (now no reputable breeder would do that) , it is the age AKC says you can use a stud without the witness of a Vet. |
