Too small?
 
Well I will talk to my breeder and ask if we could wait a few weeks (so 9 weeks old...I know 12 weeks would be better but I have my needs ^.^) and get him his second set of shots before I take him home (Question 1: Is 6 weeks then 9 weeks good time for shots?). I did ask her to weigh the puppy for me yesterday and he's 13oz at 4 weeks old. I know the charts aren't 100% accurate but is a 3.5lb - 4lb adult Yorkie healthy? Any experiences with a dog that size? Thank you very much.

What possible needs are those that you can't wait till your puppy is 12 weeks old? Seriously? Also a Yorkie puppy should not have the second set of shots that young. I understand wanting your puppy to be home with you badly, but his HEALTH and the CARE from his natural mother should be your first concern.

Sorry just trying to be cute and funny but ya I know I think I should wait till 12 weeks but I need to contact my breeder which suggested for me to take him at 7 weeks.

I forgot to say Congratulations! :) I was zoomed into the needs and second shots at 9 weeks.

OH my! :confused: That is too young! Sorry to hear that. There is plenty of info on this site for a puppy that young coming home to help you, because you will need some help :) and GOOD advice. But I would advise to talk to that person and ask that they keep him a few more weeks.

Welcome to Yorkie Talk, and congratulations on your new fur baby to come. Take the time to learn everything you can about Yorkies while you are waiting. This site is so full of information and help, way beyond what you'd find in any book.

Waiting a little longer will give the pup better chance of survival and socialization, and make your life a little easier. Hope you are planning to be home with the little one 24/7 in it's first months to make sure he eats, etc.
The little one's do demand more care and attention, especially in the beginning. Long term health is determined more by genetics, and proper care and attention of owner than simply by weight of the dog.

In many states it is illegal to sell a pup until 8 weeks, and your breeder's suggestion of 7 weeks makes me question her integrity and knowledge.

Me too...but I already put a deposit down. I already emailed her if we could have him stay there a few more weeks but we'll see. Too bad I didn't find this place before I put the deposit down.

Maybe I missed it. Is this puppy local or are you having it flown to you?
Either way, 12 weeks really is best, but especially if this puppy will be on a plane!
I wish more people would find this place before purchasing too! If this breeder is at all responsible, they will do the right thing.

Local but ya I'm going to wait the month. Do you think its fair if she charges me $50-$100 more than what we agreed on if she's keeping it another month and give him his second round of shots?

She shouldn't, you are asking her to do what is best for the pup, which she should be doing anyway.

I don't if anyone answered your shot question. First shot 9 weeks;, 2nd, 12 weeks; 3rd, 16 weeks.

She shouldn't ask you to pay more, but... if she does ask for $50 to $100 more, I would pay it just to give the puppy a better chance. Congratulations on your new yorkie and welcome to our site.

Personally, NO I don't think it's fair. I hate to say it but this person doesn't sound like a reputable or responsible breeder or they would be keeping the puppy and providing the shots already!
I'm guessing that's why breeders who aren't very reputable want to turn them loose at 6-8 weeks to avoid any or at least the 2nd set of shots cost.
Does this breeder have any kind of contract, health guarantee?
I'm not sure if you did any research on them to see if there are complaints, problems with sick puppies, etc...
Those are things to think about, especially with getting a puppy that young.

Oh my! I would have a hard time with this breeder! Please make the breeder keep your puppy till 12 weeks, no reason the price should be higher, it is the breeders responsibility to do so! Shots are 1st set at 9 weeks, 2nd at 12 weeks, 3rd at 16 weeks! Being a breeder myself, I would not let the puppy go till at least 2lbs as well! I suppose with the way this breeder conducts "business" you aren't getting any guarantee? I hate to say it, but losing your deposit would be better than the road you have ahead of you based on the ethics of this breeder!

OMG. I brought Miss Ellie home at 6 weeks. On her first trip to the vet, she weighed 1.02 lbs. she hasn't had any problems and at about 10 weeks, she's at least doubled her weight. She eats like a horse and poops like one too.
