| Travel to Germany/Europe Has anybody taken their dogs to Europe lately? Germany in particular. What kind of micro chip did you get for your dog? Seems like they have different frequencies over there and customs won't be able to read the standard chip any US vet here uses. I'm looking for any kind of advice you have. I know, there are "Travel Chips" available, but has anybody here used them? Do you bring your own scanner, just to be safe? I'm nervous, that I get to customs and they will turn me (or my dog) away, because of ID issues. Should I get 2 different chips? One for US use and one for travel????

| You need to have an ISO chip that has 15 digits. Also the rabies vaccine has to be done before you have the microchip put in. And a bi-lingual health certificate. We just came over last month. |

| This is correct. The EU-compliant chips are 15 digits. PetLink is EU compliant which is the chip Remy has. Many companies/chips in the US only have 9 digits, which are not EU compliant. If you have one of these, and do not intend to obtain one that is EU compliant then I believe you need to bring your own scanner. You can check online for EU / country specific entry requirements. Look at the embassy websites. Also, look into US re-entry. Proof of current rabies vaccine as prior poster said is a requirement. Many countries also require you to have a vet health letter that is dated within 10 days of your travel date. Last edited by RemydeHaviland; 03-12-2010 at 04:05 AM. |
