Both you and Matsie are in our prayers. Everything will be fine! Gabby |
I will keep you and Matsie in my prayers! It seems they have come a long way in dealing with liver shunts, and I hope this is soon all behind you and Matsie is healthy and happy! *HUGGGGG* |
I'm so sorry to hear this. I really hope the surgery is a success. |
Update Thank you all again. I was able to be home from work yesterday with Matise and he had a good day, although like I said he had a seizure when he woke up, but the rest of the day went well and we were able to spend some quality time together cuddling. He had a pretty restless night last nite but this morning he did not have a seizure so I think the medicine is starting to help and make him feel better too. I had to work this morning and it is killing me to be away from him but I work at the same condos that we live in. so I can check on him periodically. and I will. I am sick to my stomach from stress. I do feel better that Matise feels better. I did email Dr. Tobias to see if they could recommend a surgeon or what the wait time was for her to do it. I am still waiting on a reply back. My vet is supposed to call me regarding the 2 surgeons he knows so we could have a consult with them. If anyone has any advice on questions we should ask them I would appreciate it. I want to ask how many of these surgeries they have performed and what was their success rate and how familar they are with this sickness. I still just can't beleive this is happening it all feels like a dream and that I will wake up. As some of you know My cocker Alex died last year in June and I was not doing well at all I was in bad shape. Then Matise came into our lives in late November. It was so hard for me to love him, my heart was so guarded but slowly it opened up and I grew to love Matise more than words can express. I love this little guy so much I just want everything to go well and for him to get better. He deserves the world and we want to give it to him. Thank you all again. I will keep you posted. |
You are just going through so much now and my heart really goes out to you and Matise. I am glad the medi is starting to help, that is such great news. Schatzie sends Matise (and you also) lots of hugs. |
Update. We have a pre-surgery consult on Tuesday morn. 9 am. If all goes well in the consult he will have surgery later that afternoon. The surgeon performing the surgery has done 40+ Ameroid Constrictor surgeries with 0% mortality rate. He has had alot of success and helped alot of dogs. So I have great expectations. Matise has had a good day today and I think he is definetly starting to feel better with the meds. I just have to share a very touching story with you all. Everyone at my work got together today (without me even knowing) and donated money and a card and a little toy for Matise. It was so heartfelt and wonderful that I was at a loss for words. I was just so thankful. They all know Matise because I have brought him to work a million times and they all spoil him and love him. The kindness and generosity is really amazing. I will keep you all posted. Thank you again for all your kind words, thoughts and prayers. |
You have so many people thinking about you and Matise, and it clearly shows by the heartfelt generosity of those you work w/ everyday. So many prayers sent your way - and hugs too! |

I'll be thinking about both of you on Tuesday. Isn't it touching when the people you work with do things like that? :) |

Kara, I was so sorry to hear about Matise. I know just what you are going through! Indy had liver shunt surgery 5 weeks ago and is doing GREAT! Indy was 7mo when they diagnosed him with the shunt, I was completely taken off guard with the diagnosis! He wasn't showing any of the normal symptoms, just a wierd squinty eye thing. My vet insisted I do the bile acid test, the blood test we did first came back normal but she wasn't convinced, so I agreed. I was totally in shock when she told me the bile acid results! I went to another clinic where he could have an ultrasound done and sure enough, there was quite a big shunt. The surgeon there was wonderful, he had done many liver shunt surgeries and I felt really good about him. Indy's surgery went so well!! He now has more energy than ever! He felt pretty good when I brought him home after surgery, it was quite the chore to keep him quiet for 2 weeks!! I know you're worried, I was too. All I can tell you is I'm not sorry at all that I did the surgery. I always thought that Indy was just a laid back puppy. He played, but he also had alot of sleep time too. Now he is just a ball of energy! In 3 weeks he will have his first bile acid test since the surgery. They tell me not to be disappointed if his levels aren't back to normal yet, sometimes it takes months for them to come completely down. In the meantime, I still keep him on the Hills L/D diet which helped so much before he had the surgery. I know the surgery is expensive, for awhile I wasn't sure I was going to be able to afford it, but my mom ended up helping me out and I was so grateful! Everything will work out, you'll see!! In the meantime, if I can help at all, or if you just want to ask questions, just PM me! Hugs to Matise, and you too! Take care! |
You and your baby will be in my prayers. Chloe sends lots of hugs and kisses. Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose |
