I feel like dying. My heart goes out to all that have dealt with this before me. I am crushed. Matise was diagnosed with a liver shunt today. I just don't know what to say. I feel like I am dying. It all started with a couple of seizure like episodes so we took him to the vet and they drew blood but it all came back normal but he said we should do a bile acid test so we did and the results were a shunt. We will probably be speaking with a couple of different surgeons on Monday and then he will probably have surgery as soon as possible. And of course the cost, it doesn't matter we will pay it but but it is alot. I am so upset but I am trying to be strong for Matise but all I want to do is curl up in a ball. I just want everything to be ok and for him to be healthy and happy. I am just at a total loss for what to do or say. I just can't stop crying. Oh, why is this happening. I am so sorry for anyone who has went through this before it is so awful. I am so sorry for the sadness of this thread but I just needed to talk about it with people that would understand. Thanks for listening. |
Oh I'm so sorry! I know its one of the worst feelings in the world! I will have you and Matsie in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure he's going to be OK! We're always here if you every want to talk. |
I am so sorry. I have heard there are different kinds. So hopefully it can be taken care of. Hope everything works well :getwellso |
I am so sorry for your little one , I'll pray for you . |
Oh, I'm so sorry. There are other girls on here and their little doggies have had the surgery and were better than when they were new afterward. Please don't be soooo upset. I know you love your baby to pieces, but outside the expense and your little one having to go through all of that, there really is a reason to be very optimistic about it. I know you're scared, though and that is totally normal. Again, I'm sorry. Just give him lots of hugs and kisses from us and know that if you need anything we are here even if it is just to talk. OK? :) |
I am so sorry, Matise, you and your family are in my prayers. Please keep us posted... |
Oh, what a nightmare for you! My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hear there are amazing things they can do for liver shunts these days. I hope you find a gifted surgeon and everything will be ok. |
Awww I feel so bad for you and her. I hope all turns out good. I will you you both in my thoughts and prayers. |
I can only imagine how you are feeling. Luckily, they found out what was wrong with him and now they can make him good as new. I know they are like our babies and as parents we get sick inside when something happens to them. Hang in there and give your little one lots of hugs and kisses. You're in our thoughts and prayers. |
Oh sweetie - I would feel the same way ...it must be so scary to have heard this and we just want to take away any pain or illness - but there IS surgery and hopefully with a sucessful operation you can have your baby back healthy and happy ...I'm so sorry to hear this ...I hope you get better news when you meet with the doctors...bless his heart - good luck !! |
Kara, I am so very sorry :). We will be keeping you close to our hearts. Give little Matise a hug from Chattiesmom and crew. |
Prayers being sent to you from Southern Indiana. |
That is my worst nightmare. I can't imagine how you are feeling. Just know that everyone here has you and your furbaby in their prayers. After so many pets being diagnosed with Liver Shunts I decided to get both pets tested. I have been waiting for Cookie's results. Results were suppose to be in Tuesday. I've called like 6 times since then. Today the vet's office tells me that the results were not correct and the lab was retesting . I am going nuts with worry. These furbabies are our world. It's great have the support of so many caring people. Hugs and kisses for you and your furbaby. Genie |

Liver Shunt Foundation Hello, so sorry to hear about your baby. Might I suggest you contact the Fanny Mae Liver Shunt Foundation at http://www.tsfannymaelivershunt.com/ . These wonderful people may be able to give you some direction, and possibly even some financial help with the medical costs. I had the pleasure of speaking with Teri Shumsky, the founder last year before she died. Those of you who are not familiar with this foundation and/or Teri Shumsky, take a look at the website also. I'd also like to suggest and request that members of this board make a contribution to this agency to help yorkies and other dogs afflicted with liver shunt. I think YTers could make a difference! Best of luck. Kathy |
I am so sorry to hear about Matisse's illness . I understand what you are going through . 2 weeks ago , I lost Brianne my little rescued Pomeranian and I am not feeling very well . I'll be praying for you and Matisse . I really hope he will be ok very very soon. |
I feel terrible that this has come in to your family. I pray that his surgery will correct the problem and he will be good as new! Your family and Matise will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know it is a huge stress emotionally and financially, but somehow it will work out. Don't despare, it is something that can be worked with and that gives you hope. Maybe connect with the people on here that have gone through it so you will know what to expect and I really feel this will bring you comfort. |
[QUOTE=Diego]I am so sorry to hear about Matisse's illness . I understand what you are going through . 2 weeks ago , I lost Brianne my little rescued Pomeranian and I am not feeling very well . Awwwe, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope each new day brings you less pain and happy memories. |
Kara, I am so sorry to hear this. On the upside, you will be getting a second opinion on Monday and perhaps better news! In the meantime, in times like these, I try to think ahead and have all those things organized that will free me up to concentrate all my time and energy on my baby. It always helps me to hang on to my sanity knowing that I don't have those aggrivating things to do [laundry, housecleaning, grocery shopping, etc.] that would take one second away from my baby!! The thing that helps me most is to stay busy and Toto stays calmer if things are as normal as possible. We will be praying for good news on Monday!! |
I'm so sorry you are having this problem. I'll keep you in my prayers. |
I am so sorry to hear your sad news. We have you in our thoughts and prayers, and will keeping parying for a positve outcome! |

(((((((Kara & Matise ))))))) Sending you both hugs! We will keep you in our prayers. I'm glad this site is here, we will stick together with the god, bad, happy or sad. Hang in there, we are all here with you! |
Thank you. Thank you all so much. My husband and I are very scared for our little Matise. He had another seizure this morning when he woke up. We are trying to be strong for him but it is hard. We really appreciate all the kind words, thoughts and prayers. It is so hard to watch him go through a seizure and know that there isn't much we can do but just pet him and let him know we are there for him. It makes us very sad and feel very helpless. The vet has given us some medicine to help and has changed his food and said we should start to see an improvement but it will take time and that hopefully we can find a good surgeon to do the surgery next week. I am so happy that we have you all to lean on in this our hour of need. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. |
So sorry to hear this sad news. I hope the surgery goes well and your baby is healthy and back to normal soon. Your in my thoughts and prayers...take care of yourself and have faith, for it is the source of believing that all things are possible! |
You and Matsie are in our prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Mac and Mellie send her Yorkie hugs and kisses. :getwellso |
