First two questions I usually get when I'm out with Soph (6 pounds) are "Is she a Yorkie?" yes "Is she a teacup?" noooo, she's a Yorkie, remember. I swear one day I'm going to have a T-shirt made to wear when I'm out and about with her.....

I've noticed more and more that people advertising pups for sale, yorkies, chis, poodles, maltis, whatever, are using the word teacup to describe their dogs and charging ridiculous amounts. Doesn't make me mad, I just feel sorry for the people who don't know any better and basically get scammed into paying more because they see the word teacup.

Hito YT. I just wanted to say alot of times when you buy dog food as long as you keep your recipe and the bag is half full and it's no longer that 30 days they will refund your money back. Or that's what they do here anyways. You may want to ask wherever you buy food if your yorkie doesn't like it can you return it for a full refund or even switch out to something else. Just a thought

My Cookie (male yorkie) weighed that much at that age.
At 11 months old he was around 2.8 lbs and he was neutered.
He was EXTREMELy picky for food. In fact I hand fed him until he was around 8 months. Then by age 1 he was eating out of his bowl.
I constantly changed his food because he was sick of it within 1 or 2 weeks.
After he was a year we found out he had a liver disease called MVD.
His bile acid tests came a little elevated. An "exploratory" surgery was done and a biopsy was taken.
So he has to be on low protein for life plus 2 medications.
This was the reason why he was so small and the heaviest he ever got was 4 lbs.Usually most dogs with MVD or Livershunts are realy small.

I dont have a big issue with the term teacup. Many people would ask me "is he a teacup?" I would say "yes because he was the runt of the litter, not because of any other reason" And the term is used for size not that its a rare thing at all and NO ONE should pay $3,000-$10,000 for that. That is what I and most people have a problem with.

When I grew up we just called them runts, but that was before someone found out that people pay huge amounts for littler dogs. Now they will even tell you they are older than they are just to make you think they are tiny. They do the same thing with Chi's. Makes me sick. When someone approaches me and ask if my chi's are tea cups my husband winces because he never knows if I am going to tell them what I think or be nice. I always try to be nice but it never fails that someone says something like...NO...my sister has a TEA CUP chihuahua, I know there are such things.
