You didn't pay too much. We all fall in love with them, and then pay whatever we can. Dad and I were talking about how much Mom paid for her yorkie, and when I told him, he nearly threw a fit (10 years ago - $500). I told him that was NOTHING now days. You paid for the puppy, the lineage, the papers, the breeding of parents, grandparents etc., and hopefully for good health. Not too much at all for a companion for 10-15 years hopefully. I would n't tell everyone - I'd just say "what I had to" - someone might be looking to steal her.

Dear all,

I was reading through all the posts and I told myself, I have to post my piece too! I was nodding away at all the posts. U r all right! Dun care wat others think!

Even my close pal chided me when I told her i paid 2600SGD (to convert to US$, just divide it by 1.7) for my yorkie Junior, she replied :' I just can't believe you would pay that kind of money for a dog!' I was so mad and because she is a close pal, I just ignore her. BTW, I totally agree that that was very rude of her!

In spore, the price varies from 800SGD to as high as 8000SGD!!!
It depends if the yorkie is of show/pet quality, with papers (pedigree), champion bloodline and the size etc. Here in SGP, you pay what u get.
if you want good quality, you must pay more for it.

My Junior is of champion bloodline, papers and i totally love his size.
He would weight less than 2kg or 2kg the most fully grown. Although he is no teacup but for me, i prefer much bigger size.

It is all very individual, if you love it and bonded with the pup,and you could afford it, why not?! just buy it! and i tik everyone's got a good deal!

We groom our dogs on our own, cut their nails, their hair etc! just love them and they are my life. I cannot live without them and totally love them so much! sorry for the lengthy post, just have to vent it out!

I think that 2K for the type of doggie you got is ok, it's actually the going rate. I didn't pay that much for Chewy, but it would have been my cap. Once we get them and we fall in love, it almost doesn't matter how much you paid.

I paid $500 for Prince and he is very healthy, with beautiful hair, great character, and needless to say worth more than money could ever buy. LOL.

What exactly qualifies a Yorkie to be in the $8000 mark or down to $1000? I know it is a lot of money, but I knew I was paying for Health! She is perfect w/ NO health issues, but friends still look at me like a fool for paying so much for a dog. Can anyone relate to this? Thanks for your advice!!! Yorkie's ROCK!
Yes, people can be rude! I have found that when people ask me how much I paid for my babies and I am not comfortable telling them right away. I say, " why do you ask"? It always throws them off and they will tell me what's on their mind. I then answer according to how involved I want to get with them.
For some people it's just none of their business!
Your baby is beautiful and worth what you paid...consider it an investment.

Money is never the issue. Whatever you pay for your darling in the first place is not even near as much as you would pay once again in a heartbeat to keep her in your life if he or she were to fall ill. Price isn't really an issue as much as 'why' some people might pay as much as they do. Paying arm and a leg for a yorkie bc he/she is guranteed to be teenie tiny is wrong in my eyes. There's nothing wrong w/ buying a runt of the litter, your soon to be love of your life btw! But if the whole breeding program is based on the "teacup" range and that's why he/she cost so much.. well that's wrong. The public needs to become more educated about the real/true and healthy standard of the yorkie breed. That way we'll be able to share their love for many many more generations to come!

But I've heard all kinds of different money ranges and in reality it's all what you yourself personally can afford. No matter what price, no matter what size, no matter what sex, these little angels have the biggest hearts and the most unconditional love to give in the whole wide world!

I paid $2500 for Cini, but she was show quality and tiny (4lbs. now at 11 months), Charlie was $1100 and Paisley was $750......To me it didn't matter the cost just the quality and when you fall in love with that lil baby....well...who cares how much they were...they were worth every penny.

I paid 1500 for Cali who is suppossed to be aroung 3-4 lbs. She was 9 weeks old and I spent another 800 in vet bills! I would say 2,000 for show quality, 9 1/2 month old is a great deal. No matter what they are worth every penny

I just tell people that everyone has different interests. My brother just spent $2000 dollars on a mustang to remodel... doesn't interest me. My sister in law got a $1500 upgrade on the diamond in her wedding ring for their anniversary.... again that doesn't interest me. I LOVE DOGS! Expensive ones! Everyone has different "expensive" interests

My friend got her yorkie, Guinness, (his pic is on my profile) for $300. I think it was a great buy. He didn't come with any health certificate or any paper work. Anyway he is really adorable, and I love him very much. It doesn't matter how much the cost is. I don't know if expensive one is always better, but I think if you find one that you really love, that is the most important thing.

When people ask me on the street how much yorkie usually cost, I get worried about them stealing...

I totally agree. The majority of people that I talk to (that aren't "dog" people) say that they wouldn't spend more than $100 on a dog. So I pretty much meant more than that. It all just depends on the person, and what they value, and think is important.

Whether or not you paid too much depends upon your perspective. Value is relative..... if you are looking for a return on investment, then it remains to be seen. If your little one is for your companionship and love, then only you can place a $$ value on that. For me, I can't place a $$ value on love, I try to work within my budget and then reap the rewards in puppy kisses.

I paid 1000. for my little Sadie Mae and I have another on order for 1500. They are expensive little darlings but well worth it. Like you, people thought I was out of my mind! I wanted a small dog that I could spoil as my 2 girls are now out on there own. I needed something to nuture. Buying Sadie Mae was the best thing I ever did! I have done alot of reading on the dogs and alot of people will sell them as "toy" or "teacup" and jack up the price....there is no such thing...This is a toy breed and can range in size from 2 to 7 lbs. I feel ...if you can afford them....buy them...it doesn't matter what other people say to you...as long as you are happy with your decision.
