Tomorrow my little Junior will be put down :(

This is his story of how I found him, only 3 days ago....

Here is No name's story:

I have been looking for a "dream dog" for 6 months. Going from Tamaskans to Malamutes, to huskies, even to a NAID Native American Indian Dog Unfortunately no dice. The dogs ranged from $2000.00 to $700.00 which was just not in my budget. I decided to make an ad on kijiji.com as that's where we found Snoopy

I posted an ad asking for a husky. There were some promising offers but after a few visits to TERRIBLE homes and borderline puppy mills everything fell through. My sister told me just to look around on Kijiji to see. I searched Shibas, huskies, labs (lots but...meh), and shepherds. My sis bumped me away from the computer and searched sheltie. Many offers but, again, too expensive. I asked about 4-5 ads and got a few answers on cockapoos and one really snooty lady, then a rational response! I asked for info and.....

Well he was the first born but has turned out to be the runt of the littler. All the rest are black and white and well he is brown.

I dont really have anymore pictures as he still looks exactly the same. He does tend to over eat and eat and eat and just gets a big fat belly.

He is like a quarter of the size of the other pups. He is the only one left. He sleeps with our chihuahua puppies.

You are welcome to come and see him. I dont think he will be bigger than a sheltie.

I went the NEXT DAY to see the pup and he was adorable! I fell in love right away! She asked for a bit of a deposit and fished out $20 (fail hahaha) for a deposit. She was very kind and we fixed a payment plan, she even offered to DRIVE the puppy over on March 25th!

Unfortunately.....
With a heavy heart I write this, little no name was diagnosed with a severe liver disorder that could only be survived with a $1000.00 procedure (liver replacement surgery, a biopsy, and a 2 week stay at the vet emergency hospital) and the rest of his life contained and drugged. The breeder and I came to the consensus that he will be put down :'(

Everytime he ate his liver became badly bloated and pushed on his stomach. He is much to fragile to survive the treatment and surgery, the vet said he had about a 15% chance of fully recovering.

As much as I would love to save him, he would not live life to it's fullest.

The breeder has kindly offered to give me another pup for only the cost of the vet bill ($150 because of all the extra genetic tests, x-rays, ect... vs $600) I sadly accepted because I know no name (dubbed Junior) would want his buddies to have a good home.

I am going tomorrow (Junior will be euthanized tomorrow morning) evening to see his fellow littermates, and hopefully find a match for me.

I feel like I am turning my back on Junior and it may look like that to others but I love Junior....and there is nothing I can do but love his on his last day.

RIP little Junior.

2 people backed out of the sale because they refused to fix the pups, they planned to breed them (brother and sister!) so the breeder refused to sell to them.

I guess I should have cleared that up

OMG I'm so sorry! Was the breeder actually trying to get you to pay for his surgery? She should have taken care of his surgery! Sorry, but I would not buy a puppy from her. I hope and pray you find your healthy baby!

NO NO she wanted to pay for it but we both thought I would be best to let him go.

This is very sad. It may not be too late for this puppy, though.

So, she wanted to pay for the surgery...but then decided not to? Did she explain why?

There are a lot of people here at YT whose pups are surviving/thriving/have survived LS.

I'm very sorry to hear about Junior.

The reason is that Junior's stomach has been damaged as well, he would not survive the surgery and would be in pain for the rest of his life. I just couldn't bear to do it.

I think that is what it was, Junior has trouble peeing and when he did yesterday it contained blood.

First, I'm very sorry about Junior.

I'm really not sure where the vet is getting his/her information, but it sounds very wrong.

Dogs who have surgery for liver shunt can live long and happy lives.
They probably will need a special diet and supplements, but that doesn't mean that they aren't happy...

If done at a good place, there is about an 85% success rate and 95% survival rate. Junior may not have as good of a chance if he is very small, but I wouldn't say he doesn't have a chance at all, esp. if he hasn't seen a very highly specialized vet (and maybe even two).

Liver shunt does not damage the stomach; however, is can cause diarrhea and vomiting because toxins build up and the liver doesn't filter them properly. Liver shunt does cause bladder stones and infections which in turn can cause bloody urine. If stones are present, they can be removed.

And the hospital stay is 2-3 days. It should not be anywhere near two weeks.

Omg, this just shows how important it is to get second opinions..granted, this is an internet forum but there are very many experienced yorkie owners..i am so sorry to hear about your baby..but if there is any way, any way at all to keep him..i would hold off and speak candidly with your vet..or find another for a second opinion..i'll be praying for you and your Junior <3
