I know that the reason that a deer's eye will glow is because the choroid coat has an area called the tapetum fibrosum, which humans lack. It reflects light back through the retina, which is thought to aid night vision. This is probably true for dogs also, since you will see other small mammals' eyes glow if your car lights shine on them. The tapetum fibrosum is kind of marble-y looking and varies in colors...the eye I dissected was a metallic blue-green mixture and other eyes were more silver, so who knows. I am not sure about the red tho...that picture is awfully scary, lol.

Ok I know this one is freaky, but Toby's eyes shine BLUE. The most beautiful blue in pictures. But I think I have already fixed all of his pics I have on here.

I have pictures of Samson when he was 3 months old and his eyes came out blue. They were so cute!! When I showed the pics to people they said "look at those beautiful blue eyes"! In some of the pics you couldn't tell it was a camera thing they just looked like he had big dark blue eyes.

Now he is 7 months old and the pics show green or yellow in his eyes.

Thats crazy! My friends claims her dogs eyes glow blue and I made fun of her. Now I feel bad. She has a tendancy to exagerate the truth so you cant blame me.

My schnauzers eyes always look blue in pictures. I'll try to post a picture later.

i read recently in some random magazine that the color of your yorkie's flash eyes indicate the color of the coat (blue, black, tan, etc...). i think the mag was yorkie fancy or some overpriced mag at petco.

The eye flash is not really reliable til the puppy is older-like 6 months. I can tell you in the over 20 dogs I have had in the past 7 + years, everyone was right on when it came to the eye flash. I have hauled 3 dogs with their pics off to the vet for an eye exam. $200.00 later I had the assurance their eyes were perfect. My mentor, on the other hand, gave me that same info for Zip!!!

I too have heard it is about their coats. Maggie's eyes are glow green. When I take her picture, I try not to do a direct shot.
