I know that the reason that a deer's eye will glow is because the choroid coat has an area called the tapetum fibrosum, which humans lack. It reflects light back through the retina, which is thought to aid night vision. This is probably true for dogs also, since you will see other small mammals' eyes glow if your car lights shine on them. The tapetum fibrosum is kind of marble-y looking and varies in colors...the eye I dissected was a metallic blue-green mixture and other eyes were more silver, so who knows. I am not sure about the red tho...that picture is awfully scary, lol.
