| sexual maturity AKC will register his litter at nine months so that must be the magic number. But my husband, who is a breeder, says it is just too hard on them to breed them at that age. They need to be at least one year old. |

| male AKC accepts a litter sired by a male at 8 months..but that does not mean all Yorkie males will breed at 8 months or are fertile. I start studs at 12 months as a rule. |

| sexual maturity all I know is I asked my husband because he breeds beagles everyday and he told me nine. maybe he is wrong. But, I thought husbands knew everything about everything. LOL I asked because i want to eventually breed Ceeby but he said I need to wait until he is a year old. |

| Wow! Piper just turned 7 months old yesterday. He's still my little baby...I couldn't imagine him a Daddy so soon. Maybe when he's twenty

| AKC can say 7 & 8 months, but I think that is way too young. For the girl at 7 months that would be only one heat. Is it me? Or does that sound strange??? I'm not a Breeder, so I don't know for sure, I just think it would be kind of weird that young. After all they are still puppies until their first birthday. That's just what I have always thought, like I said, I'm not a Breeder, so I could be wrong.

| Akc The AKC does not have the best interest of the dog at heart..but they never have IMO. I think it should be 1 yr...even though that is too young for a female, at least it would be kinder. The reason I say the AKC does not have the dogs interest at heart is because of puppy mills. They could have stopped them long ago. Putting a limit on how many litters a person can register in one year would curtail millers..but it would also cut into AKC revenue. |
