| Getting a Yorkie Maybe, any advice? Monday I am going to go and look at a yorkie. He is 18 months old, housebroke, all shots, on heart worm preventive, AKC, weighs about 4 pounds Is there anything I should ask his previous owners about him before I buy him? I am going to ask for his vet records (because I have other dogs and I do not want them to catch anything) |

| Yes, ask for his vet records and make sure everything is up-to-date. Do you know if he takes well to other dogs? Good luck & I hope you two hit it off |

| Maybe you could ask if he has any particular habits - good or bad Does he dig a lot, wake in the night, bark alot... What kind of toys does he like? Where does he like to sleep? Is he motivated by treats or affection? Good luck!

| Ask what his routine has been. The poor little fella will be confused when you bring him home, so if there's any part of his routine you can follow with, that will definately help him to settle in quickly |

| He apparently has been raised as a lone yorkie. He may not get along with other dogs.

| Has he been fixed? what is his temperment like? see if you can take him home on a trial basis. Make sure he is ok with your other dogs. He might be very use to a quiet home with only one owner . Ask if their are any behavioral issues or concerns with him.

| She has some other dogs (she is also trying to find a home for them), so he has been around other dogs. Oh and he is not fixed |

| You could also ask who his breeder was so that you can research that breeder to see what health testing she does before breeding. This way you'll know what his health problems might be in the future. You'll have to post us some pictures if you get him.

| Well as it turns out he has no vet records she has been giving him all his shots. She even said she had given him his rabies shot. Also no vet record for heart worm check . So I don't want to pay a high adoption fee (400) for a dog I am going to have to take to the vet and spend 150 dollars or more ( I know how much it costs for a full blood panel and all test done since I rescued a dog this past summer from going to the pound) to get him checked out before letting him around my other dogs. I guess I will continue to look for the perfect yorkie since I do not want to expose my current dogs to anything that could make them sick. |

| You're probably right. But, I do know some pet owners that do administer their own vaccinations sans the rabies. But they do take the pets in for their yearly check ups......

| The main thing that turned me off is in the state of WV , I was told, the only person allowed to give a rabies shot is a Vet. A person is not even allowed to have the rabies vaccine. |

| There are some states that allow it, however, the breeder must attend some classes and become certified to do so. However, they can only administer to their own dogs and no one elses.
