Does your local news station have any kind of "watch dog" segment? Often bad publicity is the quickest, cheapest, and most effective way to get someone to pay.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd probably be standing outside the store, handing out flyers with that poor pup's picture on it to every potential customer.

We have something called Help me Howard on our local news, I contacted them and both local newspapers with no reply. ASPS, CAPS, and many other animal rights organizations. As well as our attorney general, and police department. Every single person had the same reply- nothing they could do, go to court (expect the police department- never returned my call either). Everyone likes to reiterate the same petstore line- yes I understand petstores are bad and this is obviously what happens unfortunately receiving lack of sympathy because of the fact I purchased my dogs at a petstore, I guess I am just the enabler?
Following this through with an attorney, putting every last dime I have and selling some items as well. I think this vet should be closed down and the petstore.

It is truly heartbreaking about what you are going through. I hope that you are able to go to court and fight for the poor puppy that died and the pup that you have now. It is going to be an uphill battle seeing how Petland is a huge name but you have to do what is right for the pups! Hugs to you and Jack!

I'm not blaming the OP but as much as Petland has been in the news, it is hard to believe that ANYONE would buy from them.

I would try contacting the local TV stations. Petlnd won't want more bad publicity.

I am so sorry for your loss....and am so happy to hear you other one is doing so much better now!....

I have emailed everyone in my contact list, ablout Petland, just in cause they didnt know about puppies at these stores...being from a puppy mill....The response I have received is overwhelming, with such sad stories, they have had or friends have had.....

I WILL NOT even SHOP, in stores that sell these puppies!! not giving them a penny!!!!!!!

Thank you for sharing, your story, I hope you can get help to take these monsters to court! and that the courts see whats really going on and make them ACCOUNTABLE and SHUT THEM DOWN!

"Petland does care for its customers and has gone to great lengths to assure and ensure that the best possible solution happened for this customer. Per the warranty, congenital and hereditary issues are covered up to the purchase price of the puppy. This puppy did not pass away from anything congenital/hereditary... This puppy was not given consistent care with the same vet but in fact saw three separate vets w/i one week and this customer NEVER used the Petland vet or contacted the appropriate places until the process of treating the puppy was well underway. As soon as the customer contacted the Claims department and submitted an invoice a ck was sent to cover medical expenses. the customer was not satisfied. All things considered Petland met their obligations to the customer but still went a step further and offered a replacement puppy OR a refund on the purchase price of the puppy(offer documented in writing) This was rejected. It is unfortunate what occurred with the customers pet. Petland is sincerely sorry for their loss....Petland is under no further obligation to assist any further. They have done all that is required and then more. Should the customer wish to accept the offer it is still valid but Petland will not offer anything more."

I am so outraged! I contacted an animal attorney here in florida but it is very expensive. Does anyone know of a place I could get help for attorney fees from?

You should take them to Small claims court where you pay a small filing fee usually under $100.00. If your vet bills were under 5K you should go that route. Sounds like your case is a slam dunk, go armed with the contract and medical bills and if you can get the vet to go and testify that the illness was evident before you purchased, no judge in their right mind would rule against you. If the vet cant go get a notarized statement from the vet. I bet as soon as you file the case and Petland is served you will get a call from them wanting to settle.
