| If I wouldve been taking a test on how to take care of a yorkie, I wouldve gotten an F. I took Holly to the vet for the ear issue and found out I HAVE to take care of the food situation. (She eats the cats food, not hers). Put the catfood up where Holly cant get it. This cause some consternation in cat land for a bit (kind of like when you erase the line in a line of ants and they keep going back to the same place then stopping out of confusion for a little while). Order was restored shortly though. The hair in the ears needs to be PLUCKED. I am bathing her too much because her head smelled and I thought this was like just food and dog stuff on her head. No it smelled because it was her ears that have a mild infection. (this is what I thought and they cleaned her ears and plucked the fur) *sigh I have failed as a small dog care giver. She also weighs just over 5lbs which caused the vet to say she isnt all yorkie which is ok with me, I still love her but she looks like a yorkie, not that it matters either so I dont care. She didnt like her car ride, she upchucked 2 or 3 times. She came home and went to sleep. We were happy to finally be home.

| We live and learn love. No one is perfect. Don't think my dogs would like me if I was too perfect. 2 of my dogs are over 5lb but are true blue Yorkies? Hugs Shirl x x |

| When I first got Peek a Boo, my vet (at that time) told me not to feed him more than 1/4 cup of food twice a day. He was and is a very active dog, and I believe that has to be taken into consideration. He started off at 5 lbs at 5 years old. When his coat grew in, that alone added 1 lb. He had issues: stealing cat food, not playing well with others. Thinking about it, I decided the vet was goofy, as Peek wasn't like fat or anything... and after observing him for a month or more I decided maybe his attitude stemed from not having enough to eat. So I did increase the amount of food he was getting, as I am not concerned with his size as much as I am his health and well-being. Things got better and he seemed to calm down some. Now, at 13 years old, he will still steal cat food, but he is much happier and weighs between 7 and 8 lbs. He is still very active, and cleans his bowl most days. He also loves treats...so now I keep an eye out that he doesn't gain but maintains his weight and good attitude. His food is adjusted according to his activity level, not to keep him the size people think a Yorkie should be. When getting him to eat dog food I occasionally will add 1 tsp or so of cat food to entice him to eat. It's very stinky, and he just loves it. So it is a hard habit to break, and eating some catfood is better than not eating anything at all.

| My yorkie got into the cat food the other day and was sick & vomiting all day The vet said it was the cat food, which I know it was since he was fine before that. Cat food is very bad for dogs. It has too much protein & fat in it and can cause kidney problems. |

| Cat food is definitely a no no for dogs; from what I understand it can cause some serious issues. My friend has both and feeds the cats on top of the table. Anyway,,,do not be too hard on yourself. We have all been there where we feel like, " Boy where the heck have I been"? It happens to everyone. Now you know what to look for, and I am sure you will be on top of it. Hang in there..... |

| Well of course I know dog food is bad for cats. I didnt realize was bad for small dogs. I think its barbaric I have to PLUCK tufts of hair out of her ears but if thats what it takes then thats what we do. The vet told me (basically) that I was spoiling her. *rolls eyes* well yeah. Holly is just happy she is going to get bathed 99% less than usual

| The vet also told me omega or fish oil would be good for her. The cats can benefit from it too although they have wonderful coats.

| The AKC says that a yorkie shouldn't exceed 7 lbs. (I think for showing purposes.) I don't understand why he would say that because she is 5 lbs she isn't a yorkie? I have seen some cute yorkies on YT that are over 7lbs, and they are 100% yorkie! |
